Hello all, I'm getting ready to order a TVM early Virginia rifle. I'm going with Deluxe maple and want to make sure the stain is appropriate to make the figure pop. I remember roundball had on that was sort of reddish that looked amazing. Any suggestions and or pictures appreciated.

TVM built my S M R and l choose the reddish color . Actually it's a reddish brown and looks really good . To me it is the best choice of the stain colors they offer . By the way I get a lot of compliments on the rifle . It's a great shooter to boot .

The one on the bottom

is a TVM if that helps.

Jackpine 54 the rifle on the top of the pictures posted by tnlonghunter looks exactly like the reddish stain on my TVM ...SMR . Hope that helps .

Thanks Roundball54. I do think that the red makes the figure of the wood stand out more. My TVM fusil has plain maple, looks reddish, but I swear it was called dark brown?? A lot of hunting seasons have passed since I got it.

I think TVM does call it brown . I bought some of the stain from them for a project and they did call it brown . They let me talk to the guy who stains the stocks . I told him l wanted the reddish stain and he knew exactly what l wanted and that's what they sent .
If you decide on the red just talk to them to insure you get what you want . I have found them to be very easy people to deal with .

Zutt-man that sounds like it would work perfectly.
I am not sold on red exactly. I have seen some really nicely figured stock with the stain hiding most of it. I want to avoid that if possible.

https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/kibler-colonial-assembly-timeline.136570/Not TVM, but just a look at aqua fortis on fancy maple. I THINK I added a little brown dye to my oil to darken it up. It also darkened naturally over time after finishes were applied.

When Kibler comes out with a fowler (and hopefully in maple) I’ll use the same process, but with red. I would like a red colored fowler with figure.

Is that a dye or actually a stain ?
I had to look it up, because I couldn’t remember. It’s a stain. I tested it on scrap pieces and increased/decreased ratios based on results. To be honest, I think it made a little difference, but not much. My next gun will see a higher ratio for a red tint
