Well yeah, I bought another one, the Uberti 1851 London that was being sold in the Clasifieds here.

Had a nice talk with the fellow selling it. Found out from him that there is actually a museum of replica percussion revolvers out in Oklahoma ("out" to me, that is).

Anyway, this gun was part of it at one time, orsomething along those lines. The main point I want to make is that the gun was made in 1980.

Now, I felt a little funny when I heard that, but decided what the hell, I was going to buy a'51 sooner or later, actually sooner, and I like to avoid brass when I can, so it was the right model.

My question is, what was the quality on Uberti firearms "way back" in 1980? Anything bad to get myself braced for?

It has always been my impression that import firearm quality has been improveing all along. I guess the question is how much have they improved in the last 30+ years! Geo. T.

In my opinion, Uberti has always rated as the best maker of cap and ball revolver reproductions with the possible exception of the Belgian made Centennial Arms Corp.'s Colts.

After Centennial Arms closed, Uberti revolvers became the standard by which other companies guns were judged.

They were good but have been constantly, incrementally improved. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an older Uberti if it passed my inspection.

If you ever get to Oklahoma City, you HAVE to go to the Cowboy Museum. Just heed the warnings about which sections allow photography and which do not.
