Greetings from Down Under.

Yesterday, while waiting the 3-4 months delivery for my Lyman Deerstalker L/H flintlock in 54 cal, I was given a mould for an unusual 54 cal bullet.

It's by SHILOH PRODUCTS (marked on the sprue-cutter extension) of black anodised aluminium, marked D 541 on the outside top of each block and 0442 on the outside bottom of each. The bullet shape itself is odd, being like a 54 cal cylindrical wadcutter with a flat top, flat base and 3 narrow lube grooves. It is 3/4" long, and until I cast a few I have no idea of the weight. The lube grooves are 0.075" wide, and the first one starts at 0.25" from the base and the other 2 are evenly spaced with 0.10" between them. All dimensions given are approximate but close.

I would appreciate any information that anyone can give me on this bullet, particularly if there is someone out there who has actually tried it in a Deerstalker.

Many thanks,

Pete.

I had one of those molds. Mine was a .50 I believe. They were supposed to be heavy for their caliber and very accurate if I remember correctly.

Peter, I'm not sure but I suspect the mold was marketed by Shiloh Sharps for their 1863 model Sharps. You can contact them thru their site:
