Yup, that's what that feller did. Looks like a consensus!
I'm just learning about lube, too. Do you pre-lube the patch material, and then roll it, or fold it, until needed? How do you carry the lubed patch material without lubing everything you have? I'm shooting to be HC, so I can't use plastic boxes or bags.
Tie the strip onto your bag strap.

I was cutting grass where some guys were changing tractor tires and found a knife used for cutting valve stems. Took it home and cleaned it up and that little knife will shave the patch material off clean. The brand is Dexter Russell, the end is rounded with a thin blade. I cleaned the blade and did a quick blue, stained the handle and installed a brass tack in base of handle then had Quickdraw make a sheath.

Thanks, Two Feathers,
When I saw the feller doing it, I thought that was really cool. Now y'all have given me the confidence that I'll be doing it right.
I don't think I'll be hanging it from my mouth (the bear oil lube smells pretty good, but I don't hanker to taste it), so I'll figure out something else.
Maybe it's just one little step at a time, but I'm still going forward!
Thanks, y'all.

On a side note: saliva also is a good bore cleaner as you push you patched ball down. For hunting when it may be a while before discharging that load, then you may want to use another type of patch lube that won’t dry out.
