Interesting though I couldn't get the add in English. It shows there is much more interest than some years back when few took interest in much beyond caps and flintlocks . Its the new way backwards !. Whether it will give any edge to hunters or target shooters I greatly doubt. I think the vents is more the key, its position & shape ,But still worthy of our reproduceing them .

TMK there is nobody in the UK who commercially makes either a wheellock or matchlock firearm of any kind, long or short. All those that we see being used by re-enactment groups such as The Sealed Knot are shooting Indian-made replicas of matchlocks that have been drilled through and are therefore classed as Shotguns. I don't know of anybody anywhere who makes a commercial wheellock firearm any more, although I recall a Spanish-made pistol many years ago - discounting for the moment the famous Polish gunmaker who makes museum replicas of extreme elegance and expense.
You are totally wrong on matchlocks in the UK being all Indian made. In fact there are very few English re-enactors that use Indian pieces and the vast majority are made in the UK. All the early Sealed Knot muskets, right back from the late 1960's were home produced with a few makers operating on a semi-professional basis and a couple as full time craftsmen. They are all proofed at UK proof houses and stamped up as such. There is only one full time maker now but many are made each year. Not only matchlocks but English lock, dog lock and snaphaunces are made.

Well I don't wish to get into a debate on English V Indian Matchlocks ect in UK Re enactment .All I see on such as' Time Team' look OK .I did get some Wheellocks made in India in the mid 70s but not many . But later on I made a Matchlock for Kranks to send out to copy but what numbers or if any got made I've no idea .. I am not even sure it reached India .I did buy four English lock kits at Kirby Hall one time they were sold cheap but other than one hard spot all worked up well and three are guns now might have been Albion Arms from distant memory . In general all re enactment portrayals are much improuved from earlier years .. Again I am not sideing with any one side .Just mention it . Rudyard
