Welcome from Texas!
My ancestors were in Rockbridge County back when Sam Houston lived there with his parents.
When Sam's Father died, his Mom took him to Tennessee.
I contend that my ancestors knew the Houstons.
As a Colonel in the Texas Army, I find that fascinating.
Another ancestor, in the Rockbridge 1st Artillery, was killed by Yankee sharpshooters in Winchester, VA.

He was mentioned in the book,

THE STORY OF A CANNONEER UNDER STONEWALL JACKSON,

"I forgot to mention that, as one of our guns was being put into position, a gate-post interfered. Captain Poague ordered John Agnor to cut the post down with an axe. Agnor said, "Captain, I will be killed!" Poague replied, "Do your duty, John." He had scarcely struck three blows before he fell dead, pierced by a Minie-ball.

In this battle, known as First Winchester, two of the battery were killed and twelve or fourteen wounded."
I have both living and dead relatives in Virginia. But, like Sam, once he arrived, he stayed in Texas.

As will I.
