Hola Deano
I do not mind at all, I am just a beginner myself ... they all came from different backgrounds ...
1. The big Bowie blade ... was made from forging it from a truck spring that my good friend Pitchy did for me.
2. The middle Plainsman Hudson Bay type knife blade started life from a solid square bar of 01 tool steel I purchased from ENCO Supply CO.
3. The smaller buffalo skinner type knife was cut from a saw blade that Pitchy cut for me with his new plasma cutter. What a nice tool and gentleman.
From these beginnings I ground and shaped them all to size and shape with a beltsander, angle grinder, files and sandpaper. No surpizes there except how much work I put into it.
I sanded and polished until I got them where I wanted, and then sent them off to another good friend Wick, who tempered them for me in his temp controlled oven. They are now back in my possession and I am trying to slowly finish them in the style and shape that I want them to be.
I also will make the sheaths as well, having made the first one a few days ago as you see. I can only hope they turn out nice enuff as so many of the fine ones I have seen on this site. We have some real talent here that have been very generous & shared many ideas with me. We are a big family here I like to think.
BTW the reason the sheath is black is due to when I wet formed the leather it left some black smudges on it and I could not remove them even though I wanted a brown more traditional colored sheath .. I just dyed it black with Feiberlings USMC BLACK Dye to cover the smudges up!
Hope this helps ... :hmm:
