Lazy day here, attended to the wife with her knee surgery recovery, entertained the dog, fixed the evening meal (baked chicken pie) and just piddled around. A much appreciated break. The pooch and I even got a short nap in.

Finally a day with no rain. Mowed the grass on the empty 4 lots a block from the house because of all the rain, almost
2 weeks , The grass got away from me was around 18 inches high. mowed on the highest setting will have to mow again tomorrow. Just what I wanted to do. Would rather go to the range and shoot but was told the crossing was
washed out from all the rain . Oh well . I'm just happy that I'm not planting those 4 lot in garden like I used to. Got
raised beds now at the house, lots of time left to do the important things in life , shooting , fishing you know
the important things.
gunny

Put a dozen or so rounds through the Kibler 45. No misfires, one hang fire near the end of the session. Still using the original flint. Groups a little tighter with the 60 grain load. Shoots a little low at 50 yards, I will fix that
after I am happy with the load. Had a great day at the range.

Today I learned that I'm far more wealthy than I thought. I've been going through 40 years of collecting and hoarding, sorting out what to sell and what to take when I leave Alaska for Arizona. I didn't realize that I had such a store of unmentionable components that are in short supply and high demand these days. I can ship them south on a barge and sell them when I get there which will give me a lot of extra cash to use getting back into serious muzzleloading after a long absence. Whoopie! Life is good!

Did some more camper work, found the back wall is rotten. Shouldn`t really be surprise, the rest of the thing was rotten. It is a relatively easy fix, i just don`t want to do it.

cleaned my new to me ASM 1851 navy. Easy to clean parts were nice and clean. Barrel is shiny and looks new, cylinders are good. A few squashed used caps fell out of the frame when i took the trigger out. It was pretty dirty, but no rust.
After i move i will have to order a nipple wrench for this, the wrench i have is a little big.

I have had 3 campers, didn't keep the first one long enough to get leaks but both of the 5th wheels had leaks over time, one rotted out the back corner before I found it was leaking, the latest one didn't leak inside but rotted out the back on one side. The first one was wood framed and took a major rebuild, the last one was a Keystone Cougar with aluminum studs and wasn't that big a deal to fix. I had the camper place do the fixes, my insurance paid for it.

On the last one the insurance company told me they no longer paid for leak damage because there was so much of it in campers. I had backed the camper onto my shop and bent up the ladder on the back the camper guy just grinned when I told him the insurance would pay for the rot but would pay for the ladder. Turned out to be an expensive ladder replacement estimate that covered the rot fix as well. Sounds a little underhanded but I have paid the same insurance company for houses, cars and camper's insurance since 1978 with only one stolen vehicle claim, a couple of fender benders and a $600 burglary loss claim.

I always used latex calk on my campers as a sealant, worthless stuff but I didn't know better. When discovered self leveling calk my leak problems were a thing of the past

I sold my last camper a couple of weeks ago, I had a great time with them when I was younger and before my wife died, but have lost interest in camping in my older years.

Eric, interestingly enough, the only reason i`m giving this camper any attention is because it is a Keystone Cougar with the aluminum frame. Maintains its shape pretty much regardless of the rot. Only the front, rear and floor structure are wood framed. i got it used from a dealer In Ganaoque, Ontario. ( there is only one so i don`t need to name them) Brought it home and next day found the floor was rotten in a corner where you would not normally walk. Took it back, and the manager pretty much said”buyer beware, can`t help you.” Karma did come around eventually for them.
floor repair took me about 8 hours combined over a week, got to do it twice as i assumed the leak was from the hot water tank seal, not the roof.
Roof is now 1 inch polyurethane foam panels with three layers of fibreglass mat on top of 7/16 OSB. Overhangs around the sides and back 2 inches or so. Never measured the overhang. Side to roof seam is ‘glass angles bonded with PL Premium construction adhesive under the overhang.
Got some rough cut seasoned 2x4s which i`ll be using to re frame the back wall after i mill them to size.
Am never buying another camper ever. If anything, i`ll get an old school bus and join the “Skoolie” crowd with their converted busses. If they leak, they only rust, not rot, and maintain their structure in accidents for the most part As they are built to protect children.
By the time i`m done with this thing, it will probably float.

Let's see. Today I woke up much too early after going to bed much too late this morning. Right now I'm perusing the forum, and typing out this post while sucking down copious amounts of World Market Italian Roast, fresh ground of course....... :)
I see a nap sometime in my future today. I'm also wondering how long before I'm fully recovered from my carpal tunnel surgery, it's been a month and I still have weakness and some pain. Sometimes it sucks getting old.

The club had a Chunk Gun Match on Sunday. I took the Derringer rifle. As expected, the rifle performed quite well. Two of the matches I placed the center of my ball 0.250" from the X. Unfortunately there are still lessons to be learned and several shots went wild. Out of 14 shooters, I placed 10th.

My final sighter target. You can see the X target peeking through the hole in the center. The scoring target is pinned behind the sighter target with the intent for the shot to join the group centered on the X.

This is what the sighter target should look like when everything works right. The center of the hole is about 0.246" from the X.

Did that twice, but too many were out of the scoring circle.

Today I slept late, cleaned up the dishes, washed clothes and did some necessary work on the long bench in my basement shop.

I made more carpenter bee traps to give away, every now and then I would look over at the Haines rifle I lost interest in, it is mostly in the white but I can't seem to do the last bit to finish it. Botched hip replacement surgery and prostate surgery back to back have made me lethargic, neither one has healed well.

I ain't yet, but I need to go out and vacuum the pool after a couple of days of wind. Maybe later. Did I ever tell you, "Don't ever get a pool".
Two of the happier days in my life - the day our pool install was finished and the day we sold the house with that damn pool in the back yard.
"NEVERMORE"

Get going on that Haines rifle! I’m here in Georgia and need a shooting buddy! I’ve been giving some serious thought to doing a Haines rifle kit, maybe the Jim Kibler! Get well sooner!

Took the wife too physical therapy as she is there for at least a hour and a half rode over too the local pawn store, got a great deal on a un-mentionable 45 colt single action pistol. Came home and mowed the grass. Been looking for one of these for a bit and there it was.
