Another turkey call.

Took advantage of the 70 degree weather...went to the dump, worked on cleaning up a VERY rusty CVA Bobcat .50cal someone gave me.

In between rain showers this morning I hurried up and cast 40 or so .495 balls with the mold I received yesterday, went to the range to try them out in my Renegade in preperation for the match at my club tomorrow. It was raining and the wind was horrendous!

At 25 yards, 60 grains of 3f Goex gave me a nice group, so I adjusted my sights a little and moved to 50 yards. Got 2 decent shots in before the rain ruined my targets so I took a few shots at some steel targets and packed it up.

I think I got it dialed in enough to at least not embarrass myself tomorrow! Got my gun all cleaned up and all my stuff ready for the match.

At the range this morning, shooting my Frontier .50. 55 gn Triple 7, .490 ball. .015 patch. Really loving this rifle. So glad I converted it back to the original sights and working through the challenges of using them. Took a few shots of our little range too so you folks can see it.
25/50/100/200/250 yd lanes...the north side (not pictured) is archery and trap shooting. This is about how busy it gets... :)....pics are all labeled.

Range southwest.jpeg Apr 11 25 yds .50.jpeg Apr 11 50 yds .50.jpeg Apr 11 100 yds .50.jpeg

And just for the heck of it....shot one at 200 yds more or less (below) to see if I could hit the paper....haha...this was from 1 knee, the rest were all off hand standing. ZERO wind today, that makes a huge difference.

Great shooting RanchRoper! Love my Frontier as well. Just recieved a replacement original front sight and am going to swap out the, now toooo thin, german silver blade.

Finished up at the show. And packed up the small amount of unsold stuff. Took a break and stopped to watch another 10, 000 rush to the covid "vaccine" injection tents on the other side of the fairgrounds. If they weren't infected before, they are now plus with whatever the gov't put into untested, unproven, experimental compounds. Went home to clean all my new goodies including a brand new unfired looking H&R .58 US Springfield Stalker.

Range plans went belly up. My dad and I work for the same company and we both had to work the weekend. Celebrated my birthday a day early. Grilled Spidi’s ( upstaters know 😉), hung out with the wife and kids. They surprised me with some tow and 10 lbs of lead for b-day gifts!

Worked like mad ALL weekend trying to get a waistcoat pattern to fit me (NOTHING fits me). It ain't easy. I ain't normal. Trying to fit me with anything is a Herculean task, to say the least. I finally have it mostly fitted.... still have to work on the back between the shoulders. Ugh.

Giz a gander!

I find the walls of the Pedersoli barrels are significantly thicker than the barrel walls of my unmentionables. Its additional weight all seems to be in the barrels. Why oh why would they have done that?

Probably to use a common set of barrels to their muzzle-loading double rifle.

Once again it has taken me a day to get my picture ready. I have the smooth bore target from a friendly competition at the range on Sunday. Nothing really to get others excited about as my target was good for 3rd place. I will admit that based on some of my previous shooting, I was pretty well pleased. Yeah, it was a 200 yard target shot at 25 yards off hand. Thank goodness that the best 5 of the 6 shots fired counted for score.

Came in first among the geriatric crowd. Tough shooting as we had lots of wind and I was glad I chose my 54 caliber rifle. That bunch of old grumpy men has been getting pretty good. Three points separated the top three shooters amongst us old guys.

@Justin.44 and @rich pierce will have to fill in other details on the other matches.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a pic of my target.. Considering the wind, I was pretty happy with my shooting, though I know several guys shot much better. It was a great time!

Our 50 yard bench match, open class and peep sight classes, were well attended with some great scores despite strong winds. I think I placed about 6th in both 50 yard bench matches with an open sighted gun. Best of all I won the 50:50 playing card poker match, taking home $45.

I’m happy with my bench gun as in several of the targets the holes were about touching. It was my first match shooting left handed. My left eye is clearer. I need to decide how to set up the sights better for elevation. I had to guess how low to hold below the bullseye with a 6 o’clock hold. It’s mostly a chunk gun but I need to make it my bench gun too.

My smoothbore was giving me ignition fits. I pulled the breechplug last night and there was caked powder at the plug, all but blocking access to the touchhole. This seems a by-product of shooting 1F powder. I installed a barrel steel white lightning liner (not stainless) and hope it will fire more reliably and faster. I’m no good with hang fires.

I feel your pain. I’m a bit oddly proportioned for my height and even the simplest of patterns need some modification.

Today I went to get my 'new' revolver. It was cheap and there was no manufacturer's name on the shop's website. It was obvious that the gun hadn't been cherished by a former owner with bumps and scratces all over (Cheap remember) The cylinders all locked positively and securely which is all I was after so I parted with my eighty quid.

On getting it home

The frame needs a clean

The nipples need a clean and the bore is, as you can imagine DIRTY!

So, small bits in the sonic cleaner, big bits in the dishwasher.

Someone has also, in the past, butchered it to, presumably, fit some sort of sight.

I have a range booked for Saturday so we shall see if I have bought a pig in a poke or something I can save.

It turns out that it is a Pietta with the code AF making it 1980 I think?

To top it off, I had to make a niple key because mine is 200 miles away!

Now, I deserve a large cup of builder's !
