My favorite rifle is the top rifle. It’s a .45 calibre Tennessee Mountain Rifle, 36” barrel. The gun weighs in at 7.0 pounds even. It feels very light and perfectly balanced. The gun has a 13/16” barrel, and is the perfectly weighted gun to take into the woods on a heavy day of hunting or on a long trek. I can shoot this gun all day and not feel fatigued. The recoil from target loads is pleasant, hunting loads have only a bit more felt recoil than a target load. This gun has really got me excited about the .45 calibre…real eye opener. I’ve had .45’s before, still do…but they do not have the comfortable feel, that you find in only a few guns.
My 2nd favorite rifle is the lower rifle. It’s a .54 calibre Tennessee Mountain Rifle, 36” barrel. The gun weighs in at 8.0 pounds, 6 ounces. It is well balanced, but weighty in the hand. You know you are holding a stout gun when you put this gun against your shoulder. The barrel is 15/16” and the gun is very nicely balanced, there is no weight at the muzzle when I point this gun down range. I can shoot this gun all day, but I will feel tired when I finally call it good and retire to clean the gun, and recount the days events. Hunting loads are stout, but the mass of the rifle does a fine job of absorbing most of the force. I cannot wait to take this gun on a big game hunt.
Both guns have almost no delay when firing.
Shot them both yesterday, 4th of July, 50 yrds off hand. The .54 is on the left, .45 on the right.
