The first decent good health day in a few weeks so I finally started working on the Kibler SMR patch box inletting. I slowly formed the flat box to conform to the SMR stock, then traced the patch box, erased the lines, traced again, erased the lines, and traced for the third and final time before I stab out the form. The first cut is always the hardest because there is no going back now. No guts no glory or maybe plenty of guts and no glory. We shall see in a day or two how it turns out.

made these yesterday

This morning I used one of Joe Wood's ("flintsteel" on MLF) tools to cone the muzzle of my longrifle (the one in my avatar). I can now seat flush a .490 ball patched with lubed 0.018" ticking with minimal thumb pressure. Looking forward to shooting it and not having to mess with a short starter.

Spent the afternoon in the bush. There’s enough squirrel, cottontail and dove in my freezer that I wasn’t too concerned with getting meat. So I was hunting pumpkins with #2 buck. 9 balls down the pipe over 70 grains fffg at 25 metres.

First shot looks like I only hit it with three or 4.

Second shot. must’ve connected with most of ‘em blew the thing apart.

Got to use a 70 grain fixed measure I made out of bison horn tip.

I think my wife paid $13.99 for the #10s and $14.99 for the #11s, but our nearest big sporting goods store is 50 miles away, so it doesn't pay us to make a special trip to look or even buy ammo stuff. We check when we have to be in the area for doctor visits and major shopping.
KYGUNCO.com, $109.99 for 1000 cci#11 caps.$ 11.99 shipping. Why drive anywhere?

I drove up to a local make shift range today and launched about fifteen balls out of my .40 cal Mike Brooks I nicknamed “ Delilah” by the original owner. All I can say is either Delilah or I, or both of us together were on FIRE. I felt
Like I couldn’t miss for the first time in my flintlock career. Clay pigeons at 50 yards. Yep. No problem. 90 yards. First shot. Pop cans and plastic cup were flying left and right. Total pandemonium.

There were some new shooters there and they were interested so I left them all shoot and had an impromptu instructional session. The sun was out and I can just imagine that it is about the same feeling as having an extraordinary golf game (except I don’t golf).

Finally able to order #10 Remington caps from Cabelas for store pick up. (saves on hazmat shipping) been waiting for a year to find any. Last month I checked out a few gun shops when I visited Arizona and this one store had an employee say good luck. percussion cap guns are dinosaurs and all the mattered were in line muzzleloading guns…I promptly left.
