That's pretty nice. I seem to always gravitate toward the reddish brown colors. Can I ask where you buy yours from?

Believe or not got mine from Sears so long ago. I checked net and you can easily get it from amazon and others. Get smallest amount you can as it goes on forever and store away from kids dogs and your coffee cup. Even if you don't use up what you mix up you can just add water after it dries up in an open container.

Great and thanks for the info. I'm working on Kibler SMR in cherry, but I also have a Traditions kit I plan to work on during the winter and that sounds like it will work well for a beach stock.

Finished installing the Davis lock on the Euroarms 1803 Harpers Ferry. Not a show stopper, but I’m very happy with how it turned out. At least now it will be a reliable piece instead of just a flint destroyer.



I’ll polish it up and decide on a finish later, but it’s 100% installed and sparks great. Now it’s time to make use of those .530rb’s I cast last week.

Great and thanks for the info. I'm working on Kibler SMR in cherry, but I also have a Traditions kit I plan to work on during the winter and that sounds like it will work well for a beach stock.

I was toying with the idea of using aqua fortis first and PP second on the curley maple stocked "Das Frankenflinter" project I posted earlier but chickened out. Wish i had a test piece of curly maple to test it out on.

Interesting. I use it in taxidermy to hide rubs on deer capes. It stains the grey under fur brown and really helps hide the rubs. It DOES stain your fingers. I didn’t know it was harmful. I’ll put gloves on from now on. Thanks!

PP is strange stuff of many uses including explosives

Sears sold it as a water purifier when highly dilute. Not such a dermal toxicant as an ingestion one.

"Ingestion of potassium permanganate may result in damage to the upper gastrointestinal tract. Also it may cause systemic toxic effects such as adult respiratory distress syndrome, coagulopathy, hepatic-renal failure, pancreatitis and even death in severe cases"

I would be interested in how that would turn out. I have a Woods Runner coming in April and I'll ask for a few scape pieces of wood to test different stains on. I've been testing Lye water on cherry and it shows good promise.

Finally after a year of sickness ,got into my meager shop , and peened a front sight dovetail slightly , to correct a sloppy dovetail. Then , cleaned up the flats on the oct. barrel , and applied browning solution. Then , put the barrel in a high humidity browning box. Brown should be done tomorrow AM.

Busy weekend with the NC 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament. Had about 300 youth shooting everything from air rifle/pistol to archery to ML. I get to look after the muzzle loaders, had about 60 shooters. Beautiful day, lots of smoke

Unboxed my new Kibler Woodsrunner Kit. It is basically a gun "in the white". Everything is fitted and assembled on the gun. And I should mention that everything is superbly fitted. The only thing you have to do is put the barrel and lock into the stock and put the sights on the barrel and the gun can be shot. Only 10 minutes work. Of course the stock needs light sanding and finishing and the metal needs light sanding and finishing of you choice. This is the most finished kit I have ever received, from Kibler or any one else. Of course it is going to take some time to carve and engrave to your choice. My .54 cal. woodsrunner weighs in at 7 lbs. 2 oz. once assembled before finishing. I think it is going to make a great hunting gun, easy to carry and shoot.

Clarify action cover please. Couldn't find any reference for that title on the web. I have a new SS 58 Rem 44 unfired as of yet. Too busy moving freight a to b. Like to read the forum in the sleeper to wind down.

It’s actually called an action shield by 45D who came up with this great modification. Having this shield or cover installed over the hammer open cavity will prevent cap fragments and fowling from dropping into the frame. Pumping thick grease into the internals seals out fowling and rust and creates slick metal to metal contact areas on moving parts.

This is the way to go for us old farts with arthritis and other issues like declining skill levels. The amount of hand and arm work on customs is off scale for many as is the potential for costly mistakes. At 7 out of ten after last project myself

I took my TVM .36 cal. lefty out and did some not real serious plinking. It was a pleasure to shoot and it hits where ever the top of the front sight is. Excellent shooter and fun gun.
