Made a leather sling for a hunting long rifle.
I actually started this a couple weeks ago before I went on vacation. I'm just starting bout with the leatherworking stuff.Since the previous thread was shut down (locked) by our new moderator, I thought I would start one up again, as per the suggestion.
So, let's get this thread going again, and share your muzzleloading related adventures of the day!
That's my next project, very nicely done. What did you use for a finish?Finished making a Powder Horn, which I am pleased with
Lol, I got one of those! It's a relic but pretty much all there. It had a bolster type percussion conversion. That was the most popular contract conversion of flintlocks. They were done Newark NJ of all placesFinally hung up my wall hanger- Model 1816 musket. Made in 1834, converted to percussion sometime before the war.View attachment 88246
Yes....the event was a 2 day woods walk event. I loaded up a Lymans GPR and a GP pistol well over 100+ times for shooters to try out. I had a full horn and extra pound of Swiss 3F & used it all. Most of those new shooters has never pulled the trigger on a BP gun at the Pioneer Flats FREE shootout in Franklin, Pennsylvania 2 weeks ago. I finished 4 videos of the event I'll be posting here over the next 2 months.it don't take long with a GANG MOLD! you have some rely nice looking balls. so I guess that you went through a load of them at the event?
Made a trip to the range today. I brought my Brown Bess to take a few videos of firing with 1Fg as the main charge and 1Fg as the priming powder. Its a little slower as demonstrated with the firing using 3Fg as the priming powder. Should have spent some more time knapping the flint to have enough spark. I did have several failure to fires due to the condition of my flint.
Well, I do have the videos, but the file is too large to be uploaded.
Looks good!Finished making a Powder Horn, which I am pleased with
Might try out a set of slix shot nipples. They have been cross drilled to address that very issue and work quite well on my '58 NMA.Took a small triangular file and put a very shallow groove at 6 o'clock on the nipples of my 3rd model dragoon. This was done to help prevent cap jams.
@TFoley, I was able to do a resize, so here it is. The first shot is with 3Fg in the pan. The second one is with the 1Fg.
it is a good thing that you do it!Yes....the event was a 2 day woods walk event. I loaded up a Lymans GPR and a GP pistol well over 100+ times for shooters to try out.
