worked on my tc hawken flinter. changed the geometry of the cock/frizzen.
polished all the contacting surfaces of the double set trigger. fired it once for sight in and noticed the cock was loose on the axel. tightened that little 5x40 screw and it of course twisted off.
darn things are unobtainium.
one on fleabay for 19.95. i will make one first before paying that plus tax, plus 5$ shipping.

I have always liked the looks of the 1803 Harpers Ferry rifle. Back around 2006, I found a .58 Navy Arms repop at a reasonable price. I was working overseas and finally had a few bucks to spare. Over the years, I would take it out of the safe, admire it, and put it back.

Back in February of this year, I bought some flints from a fellow N-SSA member and put them up. Over this past weekend, the urge hit me to dig out the 1803 & install a flint. Sure enough, it sparked just fine and it lit off a pan of powder. Just have to find a day to load it up and try it on some targets. :)

Deerstalkert , feel your pain going on, as I call it "EvilBay" though there are deals to be had along with some hard to find stuff, and your frustration on braking the screw. Pick up a small tube of Loctite "Blue". The Blue can easily free up with common tools, but will hold the replaced screw in tight over vibrations. Just about every hardware store sells it. But don't use the red, it is far stronger and may be a problem on removing the screw for adjustments or maintenance.

I used it on two of my firearms. The swival ramrod bolt on my 1854 Aston/Johnson muzzle loaded pistol, darn screw came lose and snapped! Took a while, paid a handsome price for an original replacement. So now a dab of the Blue and it holds tight. Also on rear site on my Ruger Mini 14 Ranch. The darn site adjustment screw is a pain in the rear, always loosens up. I used the Blue Loctite and its held tight ever since.

The stuff works!!

On the Loctite blue and red

I use both

2-56 screws and larger

The Loctite can be softened with heat applied to just the screw using wood burning tip, soldering iron tip. Just take time and heat for a spell, just test turning screw, repeat until screw is free.

This morning cut ramrod to length, installed the ball push tip, epoxied and holding it tight while epoxy sets. At 10 am will drill the pin and epoxy it in place.

I finished reading "Crow Killer", finished sewing together my possibles bag kit that I got from October Country Muzzleloading and also finished a small priming horn 've been working on for the past several weeks. It was a great day off yesterday and i got a lot accomplished. I also got a great deal on a Lee Magnum Melter ($15) and the guy threw in a couple of rifle nipples, a nipple wrench, short starter, some cast bullets and about 15 lbs of pure lead.

SCORED again today.......!!!!
That is a few hundred more round balls....

Happy Birthday! USMC 1972-1974.

Fixed an original Harpers Ferry Model 1842 lock I bought cheap on Evilbay. I got a killer deal on it because the bridle had a broken pin and there were 2 screws broken off in the lockplate. All better now. Just need to find all the other bits... Being on a tight budget I like to gather parts until I have a big enough pile to build something. Finishing up an 1861 Springfield also.

I made an authentic Belgian style ale (well OK it was late last night). To consume after the muzzleloaders are all clean and put away. The fermentation lock is bubbling well this morning. It will be done in two weeks, then aged two weeks then carbonate within the bottles and be ready by Dec 22nd...fingers crossed. 🤞

Adress please, I'll drop by. It's been 35 yrs since I've made beer and wine. Helped grandfather
make, then as he got older, I took over the enterprise. When he passed away it was no longer
fun, no one to consume with on a Sunday afternoon sitting on the front porch and listen to his
stories about life in Sicily in the 1900's and his trip to the USA.

Today I set up the horn muzzle cap on my Jaeger for shaping. I thought some would enjoy seeing how that happened. This horn is available from Crazy Crow item #5404-405-032. Comes in 4+ inch length X 1 1/4 diameter. Plenty for nose cap and matching RR finial.

I started by installing a wood plug in the barrel channel which supports the thin stock wood as I do the horn install. I use TWO pieces of paper in the channel so I can drive out the plug later. The paper will shear nicely. Then filing the to the best shape to accept the drilled horn piece. The stock here is VERY thin so care is necessary not to remove too much walnut.

I chamfered the inside of the horn so I would have a tight fit against the shoulder. I drilled out the horn to the close size of the nose area

Some black dyed 2X epoxy buttered the two pieces together. The fit should be a snug sliding connection.

Twenty-four hours later some dressing up and the horn is ready for shaping.

I went out with my two older boys for one last trip to the range with my Kentucky rifle and the Hawkins before hunting this Saturday!
