I have done a lot of muzzleloading stuff lately, but right now I am sitting here with a .69 cal. Smoothe bore on my lap watching YouTube videos on muzzleloading wild hog hunting. I am also sipping bourbon and chasing it with a dark ale. When I am done, I will pick up my guitar and play who'll stop the rain and then Bob Fudge.

Went hunting on the Tennessee ML opener. Didn’t see a darned thing.

I actually found two tins of #10 percussion caps for my 1858 Remington! I thought those things went the way of the Do-Do bird. I have tried every trick in the book and none of them were reliable for any length of time including pinching #11 caps to fit #10 nipples, buying #11 nipples so I could use #11 caps, reworked some of the #11 nipples because they were too large and the cap would not fit correctly requiring at least a double strike, etc., etc.. All of it very frustrating. So, now if the #10 caps prove to be unreliable, I'll just have to use the other "unmentionable cylinder", I know it works every time. I'd rather the black powder cylinder worked, that's why I bought it.

Went to Fort de Chartres for the winter Rendezvous and Woodswalk. The King's Musket fired every time. Cool at times but pleasant other times.

@andy52 was able to find me. Had a nice visit.

Was trying to catch up on work stuff...
But kept getting reminded about gun building stuff. Would rather be working in the shop!
Here's to @dave_person & @labrat !
I gave up and measured and made a makeshift ramrod I need for the Kentuckian..

Yes sir I did, couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend. Meet up with Grenadier1758 and a few other people that I've known for close to 30 years. Fort de Chartres has always been one of my
favorite rendezvous. It's funny how the years melt away way when one starts talking about the old times. Here are a few photos of the fort, Grenadier1758 and Al Puknat who I've known for a very long time.

I think I may have seen you yesterday. I wasn't dressed out I was wearing street clothes carrying a pack basket and had a US navy veterans cap on.

You Know..... I saw a guy walking around with a Navy Vet hat on and almost spoke to him, I was on the USS Hooper DE1026 for my government financed vacation.

I suppose you could look at my four years in such a way I did use my GI bill after those years.
I was stationed in Mayport on the USS Noa DD-841 and spent a lot of time at sea saw 23 different countries and put in close to 50,000 miles of sea time. It's something I look fondly on but just couldn't make a career out of. Here was my ride at that time.

I just got back from the free range in the high desert. I shot my new Remington 1858 revolver with three cylinders of pyrodex pushing a .454 round ball. It shot very nicely. So I decided to shoot some with the first batch of home brew that I plan to use only in my flintlocks. It shot superbly ! Once all of my pyrodex is used up by my revolvers, it will be home brew from then on.

Fooling with my sights on the Haines rifle that I just built and noticed after I put the gun together the tang was just about a pressed fit to the rear of the inlet and the potential point of developing a crack in the stock. The barrel definitely settled back just a hair after I shot the gun for the first time. I pulled the barrel and slightly sanded the back of the inlet with an emery board. I had filed a draft in the end of the tang but on a close optivisor inspection I could see still had a flat place that could crack out the back of the inlet. I redid the draft with my file so nothing is touching the back of the inlet and all is good.

Just stocking up on some items

Last Saturday, Steven L. Bowen and I attended the Boone's Trace Muzzleloading Club's final shoot for 2021. This charter club ( in SE Kentucky ) of the NMLRA held a fun rifle gong shoot and after lunch a trap shoot. As many of you know, I seldom attend organized matches for 3 reasons:

I don't understand aggregates & some of the matches and don't want to ask.
I can't hit many targets.
I don't want to deal with the competitiveness of such events.

Anyway...I told the organizers I would attend this one. When we got to the range, the shooters & organizers treated both of us like we were family. We laughed and joked with everyone & they gave it right back at us. I loved it! The match consisted of 10 shots at 5 different gongs..25 - 130 yards. I actually hit 5 of the 10 using the Lymans flint GPR....shooting LH & RH. For me...that's awesome. I LOVED shooting with this club and will definitely go shoot with them again in 2022. During the afternoon, the club shooters allowed all of us that didn't bring smoothbores to try theirs at clays. I'm posting a fun video this coming Sunday of this cool event. Here I am with a 5th place ribbon. Not too bad for an ol' blind KY boy.

Added a 1/16 " to the top of a front sight to lower the group on a new .58 cal. longrifle. Also , the Davis lock needed a couple thousands of an inch taken from the hook end of the mainspring . The mainspring hook was bottoming out on the tumbler causing intermittent failure to go into full cock position. Will sight the gun in tomorrow AM...............oldwood
