I went to a local gun show yesterday. First one I’ve been to in probably 20 years. It was fun. Only a very few tired old TC muzzleloaders. There was one surprise- a new in the box Pedersoli Gibbs long range rifle. The story all too common. Guy passes away and the widow gets a friend to try and sell it. The price was very reasonable and probably could have been had for less than asking. Just too bad I don’t need one. I already have a fast twist bullet rifle I’m working on.

My financial downfall has always been,,, Want & Need means the same when it comes to buying guns.
Fortunately at 80 I physically can only pack a maximum of two pistols to a gun show & must take my 'old fart cart' if packing
one of my rifles to a show to sell as I can no longer shoot them.
Old age ain't fer sissies :ghostly:

Now that my RH Hawken has been deemed safe to shoot I took it out today. I shoot LH and I guess we were not a very good team. Fair results at 50 and 100 yards, not near the results I get when shooting the LH gun. So it probably will serve as a fireplace and guest gun from this point on. On a good note the CCI #11 caps all went off, no problem
Ed C. What was the problem with the Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken? I have one. I have only targeted it at 50 metres on paper, hunted closer in. I really like it. I'd be interested in your load for 100 metres, if you care to share.

I'm heading out to the range this morning to put a few patched balls down - helping a mate get his .50 Tryon up and running too, laddering a series of loads starting at 50gns FFG Wano.

Thanks.

Pete

Wow. Kidding right, Colonial Smith? Come on over and we'll sit together for a session, at 50 metres. I'd love to have you along. I'll even throw in a couple of days accommodation and some polite conversation. Doubt away...

Oh, and I can't retort Semper Fi, but Ex Dentibus Ensis, 23 years service.

Kind regards, Pete

Hi Mate,
Just givin' ya' the ribbin'. I know it was more than 3 meters. You didn't list a distance. I would be up for the shooting challenge though. I love a good shooting competition. By the way, I worked with some of your troops in Afghanistan during my 2008-2009 tour. Your troops were working out of Camp Baker, Kandahar. I was doing Route Clearance. Excellent people. Semper Fi.

Shot the TC High Plains Sporter that I got off a member here. Shot 8-10 inches high at 25 yards, came home and ordered sights. I did chronograph it a bit with RB, 250 gr REALs, and 370 gr Maxis. Pyrodex P beat the mess out of Grafs 2F velocity wise.

Lubed some 58 Cal 444 REAL with some Idaho Lewis lube and tinned them up for the kit...got both from a fellow member. Did some bore polishing on the Ardesa 50 cals and on a 54 cal CVA while I had the mess out. Mounted .450 front sights on my Thumper Carbines. Bricked my lube up and wrapped it in wax paper and saran wrap. Cussed the weather all around. Winter just doesn't want to ease up at all.

Well, when y' got predators around, you either need to sit on the porch with a muzzleloader guarding your livestock or else raise something that can defend itself. I have thought about getting some goats. Then I thought about it some more and decided to just keep thinking about it.
Sounds like a line from the Indian in Josie Wales movie. Love it!

Molded some balls for my new to me .32 Crockett then went to the range and tried it out. It shoots good. Shot 20 gns 3f and .311 balls. Tried three different thicknesses of ticking. Will play some more with it.
Had my .36 smr along also as it was loaded yet from Monday when I hunted squirrels. Shot that for awhile. Then went home and cleaned them. Nice afternoon!

Rainy day here in NC yesterday and I missed our monthly club shoot at LLR. So in need of an indoor project, I made a new file knife out of an old wore out Nicholson file. This one is 8” overall with a 4” long, .125 thick blade. The “chew toy“ antler handle was stained with Fiebings medium brown dye. The blade tang was epoxied in and is retained with a 1/16” pin. Now just need to make a sheath for it!

Forgive my ignorance but what is the pistol?

Ghost23, pretty soon you will have too many.
Well that's 3 in a month. $323 shipped for the mountain kit that I finished and put together. $275 shipped for Hawken with a box of balls, 100 #11's, and hard case. $260 for the Kentucky 45 at Louisville gun show. Gave $40 for the CVA Hawken stock. I think those were all good deals that I couldn't pass up! I've got 1000 #11's coming in Tuesday I gave $166 shipped for.

Earlier today took a gallon jug out to 70 yards and attempted to hit it with a .530 PRB from my T/C Renegade .54. Thought that I'd missed, but when I trekked down range, I found that I had nicked it a bit and it had bled down about three inches. Brought it back to fifty yards and finished it off, but because of lens flare, the videos were pretty much unusable.

So a li'le while ago, I took a soda can out to about 25 yards and shot it instead. Charge weight was 50 grains of Pyrodex P. Perhaps not as interesting as BP Maniac's marble shooting exercise, but at least I didn't have a marble stuck in my bore! ;)

Anyway, if you wanna see a can get whacked, here is the video:

I just made up three experimental "junk mail cartridges" out of... you guessed it, junk mail. They consist of 80gr of Goex Fg, a .65" ball, cheap glue stick, and the essence of "lazy". In the future I will dip them in some bees wax and tallow mix to make it easier to load when fouled.

The results at 10 yards (first shot was low left and the other two are touching)
