What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I needed to get some lubrication into the adjustable trigger on my Fournier target pistol and as I haven’t managed to strip it down yet I thought of giving it a squirt of Ballistol via the opening for the scear arm.
The finger piece on the can broke off taking most of the plunger tube with it, left just enough to depress against the bottom of a container to get some liquid; then the gas ran out.
Being mindful of the hazards of poking holes in aerosol cans I put the can in the lathe chuck and used a sharpened piece of steel, pushed by the tail stock to put a hole in it.
Minor 2 second fizz then I poured the Balistol into the little bottles pictured , these were eye drop plastic squeeze bottles and the spout snaps out easily and reseals when pushed back in, small bottle and match box for comparison.

Took my new to me .36 navy sherrif on a road trip and fired a few caps. Intended to mark the nipple that worked but they all worked. Determned first time out I was too tired and didnt seat caps well. #10 nipple, # 11 caps so I gotta squeze em a bit. Will look for the # 10 caps in a bit (and order the cap maker).

Then went to the Credit Union for some business stuff n got a cashiers check for a member to pay for my pouch with fire starter stuff.

Yesterday evening I opened a package from October Country that contained .015" pillow ticking patch material.

Today its time to start cutting patches for my .32 Crockett Squirrel Rifle. I'm hoping these will do the trick. The .015" cotton patches I have appears to be close to the right thickness but the weaving was too porous, thus having a tendency to blow apart, depending on how much lube was applied. Pretty sure that the .015" ticking will resolve that issue. Considering it is more dense and no where near as porous as the cotton patches.

Was doing some running around shooping, many different things, went into two big box stores asked if they had any percussion caps, sales people looked at me like I was from another planet. Stopped at a local store, a bit out of my way, asked if they had any, guy said only cci # 10 $12.00a hundred, I bught 300 and went t a friends house. On the way home passed another small store, just for the heck of it I went in and asked, they said #10 or 11. Bought 3 tins of #10 Remington, would have probably bought more at $9.00 a tin but they don't take credit or debit, cash only Any way I now have 600 caps

Virtually finished 2 wall hangers plus the LH flint to finish They are all based on my Reilly cape rifle just traced around the stock. Three because I bought a great slab of English walnut, not the best as it’s not from the root ball Well what else is there to to do at 80 on the 22 Match I live in hope I can get rid of the inert bit and shoot them in France, no chance in uk. Warm sunny day west of London

Started making a custom copper side plate , for an all copper component burl walnut wood, smooth long rifle. Got a whole lot of shaping and filing to do.

Still shooting about 12 shots a day. we had a multi day snowstorm so i had to snowshoe pack shooting lanes 3 days in a row. . My targets get covered and I cant see them from distance even if I uncover the plate without packing down the whole shooting lane. This is my corrected 50yrd 6" steel plate.

I wonder if all that snow in the air affects trajectory at all ? Got lead melting in the pot for more .490 RB...

Received a lovely spalted maple range box from Spiderman013. Going to wax it today with Ren Wax. Then fit it out with my various firearms bits, pieces, gadgets and tools.
The sections of my 50BMG rod will not fit so am contemplating a leather sheath to attach to the box strap.

T/C Hawken flintlock .50 caliber at a half-gallon milk carton 25 yards out. Patched .490 round ball atop 50 grains of 3f Old Eynsford black powder. Cold and windy day today. Thought I had missed initially, but when the smoke cleared the target was down.

cast 402 .490 RB and did some shooting. the threads in my brass thimble stripped out and the thimble and laned in the snow. missing one of the screws that holds the rail on as well...

Today there were 4 of us at the range shooting monthly blackpowder shoot, I was shooting my Traditions Hawken woodsman .50 cal, I had a Lyman deer stalker .54 and a Thompson Center Hawken .45 flintlock along. Had 10-15 mph winds when we started and about 45 degrees, but after 1 1/2 hours wing got above 25 mph and getting higher so the fun came to an end. But got some shooting in.

I realised just because the breech plug came off once and then was put back on doesn't mean it is coming off again. Sitting in some kroil for an attempt again tomorrow.

I finished sanding the barrel flats on the colonial kit, at least with 220 grit. Now to begin again with 320. Maybe tomorrow morning. May go visit Cooperstown trading co. in Butler Pa later in the morning.

Picked up some evapo-rust in Eufaula to clear a bit of rust/goop in a recently acquired rifle bore. Drove out by the dam to a antique store. We picked up a old Royal typewriter for our son-in-law's dad. He seems unable to type on a computer. It needs cleaning but seems operational. Paid the magnificent sum of three dollars [$3.00]. He will be happy. His son has been looking for one for about seven years; it had to be a Royal. Polecat

Braved cold north wind and half washed out roads ( with enough frozen lakes and snow to finish the job) and took my Grandson shooting. The wind and small hangfires messed up the group. Patent breach gettin cleaned up good next! Weighed minies with 70 grains. 3f T7.

Made a Slim Jim holster for my Uberti Leech & Rigdon. I'm no fan of thin unlined commercial holsters so I make my own holsters out of 9 0z Herman Oak leather with pigskin lining.
