Much of the snow has receded and so a few days ago I took a walk along some of the game trails around my cabin and picked up some sheds. To my disappointment I did not find any moose sheds this year though I do have a few more places to look yet, but I did find a few small whitetail sheds, the one pictured was among them. Today I spent a good part of the day at my bench making powder measures out of some of them. Making something useful for no cost is one of the joys of this hobby.

Have you tried that bullet on game? I bet it would leave a heavy blood trail if it cuts a hole that clean.
No. I haven't. I bought the muskets just for fun (and desirability). I use my two round ball 54 Pedersolis for hunting: Tryon and Rocky Mountain Hawken. I do agree though, all classes of ball out of the Parker Hale 58s would drop game readily. This young fella was lucky enough when I was out and about armed with only the camera. I let him follow through the swamp, not even knowing I was there.

I participated in a Chunk Gun Match at my club. Shortest distance to the center of the X was the winner. We shot from the prone position. I found that I have a lot to learn about shooting from the prone position. My best shot was 3/4" from the X. The Best shot of the day was 0.033" from the X. The best string, the measurement of the center of each shot to the crossing of the X was 3.7". Mine was 17.5". As I said, I have a lot to learn about shooting prone. And to practice on my sight picture at 60 yards.

I ordered the same thing in walnut. How long did it take to arrive after ordering? I'm still waiting.....anxiously.
I think it took a couple of weeks, didn't really take too long. I think because it was advertised as a stock with a defect, had a chip out of the forestock which I fixed, can't tell where it was now!

My Sons of Confederate Veterans camp, along with 2 other camps and members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, honored three Confederate soldiers that are buried at the Bethany Methodist Church cemetery in Ceres, Bland County, Virginia. We placed Crosses of Honor at their graves, followed by a rifle salute.

Thanks. I now realize why it's taken a little time. Apparently I missed the email that told me to let them know when to ship. It was ready 2 weeks ago!

Went down and mowed the range and parking area first thing this morning before it got too hot. Then I broke out the Jackie Brown 20 gauge smooth bore I bought from a Widow a couple of months back. It certainly did its’ part when I did mine. It favors slightly right, maybe a 1 1/2” at 25 meters (this range is 25 meters). Could be me, I may not have been getting my head centered behind the gun. At any rate it should work for our Woods Walk and short range paper. Then I sighted in my .45 CVA Mountain Pistol which was shooting a bit high. This pistol has an adjustable rear that made setting the elevation easy. By then I was getting tired, the Sun was over head, and I still had to weed eat so I packed up the fun stuff and got back to work.

Dry Balled my .30 whatsit.
was shooting and filing the front sight to bring it up 14 inches at 25 yards. took a whole flask of fff.
drove a ball and patch home and knew it was dry. after i got the Ivory soap rinsed out of my mouth, (wife was within hearing). i had to draw the breech plug to remove the tiny little bugger. 10 minutes and i was back to, you guessed it, dry balled again. have the cleanest mouth on the forum i would bet money.
