Put a new front sight on my .69 Caliber Hawken.

Not actually muzzle loading but related, started my deer skull tree for my collection, most were shot with a muzzle loader so guess that counts. Was going to buy one readymade but found a nice knurly tree where I hunt and most of the bucks were shot at so decided to make one.

Here is one that is done, On the lock side that is a grain swirl at the nose of the comb not a dished out place like the picture would suggest. I inletted all the parts to the proper depth instead of sitting almost on the surface like they were originally.

Well, not today but last Saturday, today is Monday, went out to a 4H weekend outing and displayed different types of muzzle loaders and BP handguns. Some of the kids wanted to shoot and several of them did. They shot pretty well but I did the loading. Did a burning experiment showing them the difference in how nitocellulosis powder and black powder burned. Interesting. Yesterday went out to the desert range and shot my Traditions .50 cal rifle and my TC Hawkin in .54cal that I built in 88. A good time both days. Days are nice here but for a little breeze.

Finally, and I mean finally, pan primer.jpg
it has been a long run for simple project. Finished my pan primer. Moose antler piece and parts from Log Cabin Shop. Silver "caps" on both ends to dress up raw ends.

Well, yesterday, I finished lock work on a friend's club but Fowler. The gun was built for him, but came with a longggg kinda mushy trigger pull.

Took some puttering, and input from more knowledgeable people than me, but it's back in his hands and hopefully will bag a turkey this spring.

Friend of mine with a 50 caliber CVA has one of those good Lyman Peep sites but couldn't see very clear through the hole which I measured as being .096, So I took it home and drilled it out almost to the size of the front of the peep, compromised and on a .136 wire bit. By golly don't you know he can see real good thru it now, we are just waiting to go out and shoot, and it will probably be at least two months.
