How did the color of the replacement lid end up matching the rest of the stock?
Was rereading your question and thought you might be referring to the cherry instead of the maple. I had enough of the stain mix left over from the cherry stock to do the 2nd patch box lid. It matched up pretty good but I was definitely concerned about that.

My Feldtutzer 10.4mm had most of the quadrant sight missing, so I made up the parts as I could copy them from my 7.3-53 martini also Swiss The aiming slot on the sight looked too bulky so I milled it thinner , now it looks more original when I get rid of brass screw. What I was really commenting on was my engraving machines. Now totally unused in industry etc I picked one up eBay £140 and a smaller one for £46 they are brilliant at milling with up to 1/4” dia cutters to me a must have in workshop, the more expensive one came with loads of gear and boxes of master letters, magic Cutters around £8 on eBay even got a dovetail one for £7. From China obviously

Just finished running a match. 11 shooters, 4 observers, 50% attendance. Maybe the heat index had something to do with it. 103 degrees, sunny and no breeze. Smiles, thanks, sweaty shirts, a new rifle was shown off and shot by a first time builder, dryballs, double balls. Water consumed and many a looking forward to the next match. When is it?

Well, its been a hella day. I saved my dark haired daughter from an Iroquiou named Maqua, He wanted my blonde daughter Alice, but she was bethroed to my son Uncas so I couldnt let that happen so I had to kill my friend Haywood to save Cora (he was an arrogant prick anyway). Family squabbles, it all worked out.

I took my 54 caliber flintlock out today to see how it will shoot with Swiss powder. I built this rifle last winter and shot it in this spring with 75 grs of Goex . Anyways I have been shooting my 25 caliber flintlock most of the summer so I thought I better get the 54 out and start shooting it in for early deer season. It likes about 80grains of Swiss but its shooting about 3 or 4 inches high at 50 yards. I am actually aiming at the bottom of the red circle. I might do some filing on the sights but I think I will shoot it some more first. ps- that shot up in the green at 11 0'clock was the first shot on a clean barrel. This rifle likes to shoot dirty

Finally got out and did some shooting today. .45 SMR, at 25 yards, using lower powder loads per the article in a recent Muzzle Blasts. Used .440 ball, .010 lubed patch, 30 then down to 23 grains of 3F, topped by a Lee scoop of corn meal. It was also the first time using a powder horn I made earlier in the year and after the second shot I was able to get control on how much came out the pointy end.

During a visit, my wife's friend's husband mentioned he had inherited a flintlock a few years ago, but didn't know anything about it or really anything BP. So, we had show and tell with my Brown Bess and my TVLLE fusil. I think I'll be giving him a shooting lesson later in the fall when it cools down. Hopefully we'll make another muzzleloading addict out of him!
