removed another half cord of wood from the current build. even built a fire in the wood stove with the shavings!
its coming along i guess. when i got tired of making wood dust with a rasp i started laying out metal to make the trigger guard and trigger plate/trigger. the diminutive Haddaway lock kind of gets lost i think. guess tomorrow i will reduce the plank to dust some more. i am thinking this is going to be my last plank build.
That’s a lot of work!

Chow time!

Made the old Jukar .45 range toy a more reliable toy by inletting and installing a Traditions lock. Those first generation Jukar locks leave a lot to be desired. Especially the mainsprings.

Installed a new drum and drilled/tapped for a 1/4-28 nipple. Drilled a new rear lock bolt hole further back on the stock. Used Traditions escutcheons to retain the original lock bolt. Looks awful. But knock around range toys don't have to be pretty.

Used some 3M 5200 to secure my old William's peep sight and H&R Handi rifle front sight.

In four days, I can trim off the ooze. In seven days, the adhesive will be fully cured. Then I have to decide on a barrel finish. Black paint? Blued? Rattle camo the whole thing? Hmmm.

Another range trip with the Colonial in .58 smoothbore. Starting to get somewhere with this gun. Tried various bareball loads with no success last time out.

Switched from a .570 to a .562 ball with drill cloth patching, Easy loading and pretty accurate best group was below. All of my groups were left, not sure if it was the sights or the way the sun was hitting the brass front sight.

50 yards
3fg swiss
mink oil
drill cloth patch
