What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Franken guns are what keep me busy. i doubt any rifle i ever built would be recognized by any one as being of any school.
i build for me.

I guess I just wanted to be the only kid on my block with a short barreled muzzy -the balance and sighting is actually pretty good! The trigger pull on this lock is horrific though...

Now I'm going to have to go out to the barn and dig out my box of old magazines.

I have an old issue of muzzle blasts where they featured a hawkin that had the barrel cut off, I think it was like a 20 inch barrel ?
I don't remember.
but they gave instructions how to make a replica of the original they featured there.

It wasn't quite as compact as what you've come up with however

Found it!! I had my original Hackney target rifle hanging in the Sheriff's Office for maybe 15 years before I retired. Some numbnut knocked it over and broke the original "globe" type sight plumb in two. Beyond my skillset to fix, I had the parts in my desk drawer for years, then, when I cleaned out my desk the parts got misplaced - in two places. 19 years missing.

I found the cover part a few days ago, but had given up hope of finding the base. Dug out a cigar box of M/L stuff and ,,,there was the base. The post was lost long ago, but at least what I have left is fixable to restore the rifle back to original. Now to find someone to fashion the post and silver solder the two pieces back together. ...

I started going through old black powder cans and percussion cap tins to evaluate condition. The powder all seems fine but some caps misfire or won’t even pop with a hammer on the anvil. Those are going away.

Tried to fit the new taller rear sight to the Woodsrunner. Didn't do so well and it was loose. I have another to try but thought I'd blacken it first just to try the Jax. Luckily I have a spare rear sight to work on. I'm not too good at this so I may go thru a few.
I wanted to file from the front end because the rear has a nice sharp "foot" that looks like it fits into the rear of the dovetail to lock in place.
Maybe the front of this sight is just a butt fit cause it doesn't seem to have a foot. Seems more like a bullnose.
IF I stop short, how much is too tight ?

Maybe you are supposed to file the front of it similar to the back. It Should match the barrel dovetail, shouldn’t it?

Seen some old slugs cast for a 36 Navy, haven't been able to find much about them, the little girl at the museum knew nothing about it.
It's a ball for a 36 caliber revolver but the mold cast of knuckle around it.

Just wondering if any of the muzzleloaders here might know anything about it

I thought so too. But the front does not have the sharp foot that the rear does. I did try and file the front down but took off a hair too much so the fit is not as tight as I would like. I'll try again with the spare I have.
A photo of two sights. Pretty easy to see the sharp foot on the rear that fits into the rear dovetail. Didn't want to touch that so I filed from the front.
Maybe I should file a small bit off one of the rear corners.
