I like the contrast, what did you decide to finish with?Finished the assembly of the 58 cal Colonial. Ramrod is drying, then it will be range time. This one fought me every inch of the way. The photos make it look lighter than it is.

I went with the Permalyn sealer. Then rubbed back with mineral oil and 0000 steel wool. The wax brought back some of the shine. The finish process gave me the most grief out of everything. I have a lot to learn.I like the contrast, what did you decide to finish with?
Right on it ended up looking really good. Finishing was a little frustrating for me too using Tried and True varnish. Being new, I was impatient between coats in the beginning and it kept sweating out oil. Eventually I figured out that I need to run it and leave it the hell alone lol. It was fun putting it all together though, great learning experienceI went with the Permalyn sealer. Then rubbed back with mineral oil and 0000 steel wool. The wax brought back some of the shine. You did good!!Forgot a couple pics.
A couple more and you could have a good breakfast or dinner.Took out a Tree Rat that has been eating my chicken grain. Thief no more
Man them are big compared to ours know I now why you guys hunt them so passionately they are a meal in themselves .nice wish we had em hear .Took my 25 caliber flintlock for a walk today. Got a couple of grays along the way
Photo?Still rain here. I took an old knife sheath I had, and pulled the metal snap button out, reworked it so it closes not with a leather loop and a little antler button. Holds a nice antler handle knife I have.
I also started on a short adjustable kids gun from parts that were laying around first we sectioned the stock so we could shorten the length of pull up to 4" then we added a lace on cheek riser but we found that the standard frontier barrel was still to front heavy for the kids so yesterday I cut a barrel down to 16" today the plan is to square the muzzle and cut the dovetails for the sights dont know if we'll go as far as Tim_IA with the finish but we'll see long winter left.Working on shorty today, getting closer!

Looks great. Is it rifle or smooth? What does it weigh?Forgot a couple pics.
RWS 1075 is available in this current time, albeit with different labeling. They’re a size 11 to my knowledge, but will fit most pistols. My Remington 1858 takes #11’s. If yours has smaller nipples, they may not grip, but that’s easily remedied with new nipples.Does anyone know anything about these caps. I bought them because I was told they are size tens
Rifle. Bathroom scale says 8.4 lbs.Looks great. Is it rifle or smooth? What does it weigh?
Dynamite Nobel were good caps. I don't know if they are still made. Some guys preferred them. I think the #10s were in a green tinDoes anyone know anything about these caps. I bought them because I was told they are size tens
I have a .50 cal kit about to ship. I was thinking of calling tomorrow and seeing if I can bump it to .54.@DCAN Not bad weight. I favor 54 but that would make it heavier so I'm torn between woodsrunner 54 and Colonial 58. Got plenty of time to think probably can't budget it for 6 or so months.
