I went with the Permalyn sealer. Then rubbed back with mineral oil and 0000 steel wool. The wax brought back some of the shine. The finish process gave me the most grief out of everything. I have a lot to learn.
Right on it ended up looking really good. Finishing was a little frustrating for me too using Tried and True varnish. Being new, I was impatient between coats in the beginning and it kept sweating out oil. Eventually I figured out that I need to run it and leave it the hell alone lol. It was fun putting it all together though, great learning experience

Spent most of yesterday under bluebird skies and mid 60’s temps setting out some targets for a woods walk in my woods. Going to host the April shoot for the Tennessee Longhunters. Got all the shooting positions marked off where there was an adequate natural backstop and 9 of the targets set up. Still have some more to build. Steel swingers and various hangers.

Of course, I had to try it out, so put the .40 SMR thru its paces for the targets in place so far. Fun! I’ll post a few photos later today. Was having so much fun I forgot to take any!

Does anyone know anything about these caps. I bought them because I was told they are size tens

I also started on a short adjustable kids gun from parts that were laying around first we sectioned the stock so we could shorten the length of pull up to 4" then we added a lace on cheek riser but we found that the standard frontier barrel was still to front heavy for the kids so yesterday I cut a barrel down to 16" today the plan is to square the muzzle and cut the dovetails for the sights dont know if we'll go as far as Tim_IA with the finish but we'll see long winter left.

RWS 1075 is available in this current time, albeit with different labeling. They’re a size 11 to my knowledge, but will fit most pistols. My Remington 1858 takes #11’s. If yours has smaller nipples, they may not grip, but that’s easily remedied with new nipples.

@DCAN Not bad weight. I favor 54 but that would make it heavier so I'm torn between woodsrunner 54 and Colonial 58. Got plenty of time to think probably can't budget it for 6 or so months.

I have a .50 cal kit about to ship. I was thinking of calling tomorrow and seeing if I can bump it to .54.
