I would class this one as a 4 foot gun. at least with old eyes. younger eyes, maybe a 6 foot gun!

Nothing wrong with a 4’ gun, that’s what mine are. What caliber did you end up getting?

It shoots well! Picture is of first time target and site in.
Still need to a little work on windage but overall I am quite pleased .

struggling with the finish on the Kibler Colonial. using exactly the same technique, stain, etc the patch box lid is coming out red while the stock is brown with a green tint! sort of baffled at the moment.
who am i fooling. always baffled but a little more so with this.

Probably more heat needed if you are blushing the AF...don't forget, the stock is far more mass than the patchbox lid, so it'll take more to get the same result.

But....seeing your follow-up post, it looks like you got it figured just fine. My next coat of Tung will go on today before I head out to a conference.

Took my maple .45 SMR out for a shoot on the woods walk. Had so much fun I circled it twice. It’s so nice to have my SMRs and Woodsrunners finally dialed in with the taller sights, makes it really nice. Was very pleased with my accuracy since I don’t shoot off hand as much as I should, but I will from now on. And it was nice to just go out with the rifle, bag, and horn. Now I’ll clean her up and work on the pistol.

yep! i am sure that is it but the anal part of me still has to try to get it close.
may slip some dye into the next few coats of Tru-oil. not the end of the world if it is off shade. just bugs me. grayed the barrel so am getting close to finishing the gun.
I have to salute Jim Kibler on the fit of his kit. this is the only kit i have ever done and it is impressive.
only had to file some flashing off one side of the nose cap to get a tight mating of metal and wood.
also had to shave a few strokes on the entry pipe inlet to get it perfect.

It would me as well. I think you are right with the dye as a solution.
Jim Kibler does make it simple with his kits. A weekend is about all it takes, and you have a great rifle.

Tom, you make really nice beaded sheaths - about how long do you estimate it takes you to do one like this? I did a little beadwork on a sheath about 50 years ago and decided me and little seed beads don't play well!

Nothing wrong with a 4’ gun, that’s what mine are. What caliber did you end up getting?

LOL! I had to look! i bought this from a member that decided not to build, and i didn't even think about caliber. it's a 50. swamped 43 inch Rice 1-56 twist. heavy outside the stock but hangs out front very nice. only prep left beside more coats of tru-oil is to rivet the nose cap. got all the metal polished up nice. did I ever mention how much i dislike polishing metal?
