Finished my first powder horn...not bad for a beginner.

Went to Harbor Freight and got a digital micrometer to measure the material I was picking up next at Joanne’s Fabric and got some patch material (pillow ticking, muslin and #40 drill) to figure out what my gun likes best). Then went to Home Depot and picked up some pipe cleaner, a funnel, two buckets and tubing for cleaning the guns. Purchased a set of small screwdrivers, earplugs and eye protection. The off time grocery store for some olive out, Windex and mink oil for lube. All in all a very productive day.

If you got that mink from the grocery store don't use it on your guns.
It was made for shoes and stuff like that and contains silicone and other additives that will cause you a lot of grief at cleanup time.
If you want to use mink (which I highly endorse) use only pure mink tallow like the product from Track of the Wolf.
Windex is GREAT for swabbing at the range, evaporates fast and keeps the fowling to a minimum.

Pinned, and stained...aqua fortis...two ramrods. Put a coat of permalyn sealer on both. I guess I'll do one more coat on each, although the hickory doesn't seem to be soaking much in, then put some Tried and True oil on them.

my wife's usual gesture is a single finger pointing to the shop door while standing with the other hand on her hip. lips in a tight line and a hiss!
"OUT"..
just blushed the stock. that got a so so motion from her.
Any pics?

I did mine the other day, and it's pretty red. I'm wondering if I should knock it back with some scotchbrite before sealer.

Last summer I picked up a very nice t/c Renegade in .50 percussion from a friend, very inexpensively. I recently took her down to the small parts for thorough cleaning, deburring, polishing and lubing. The original rear sight was just....god awful, so I have just installed a Williams target rear aperture. Today I got her pretty well sighted in with round balls, she seems to like 60 grains...three shots in one hole at 35, about 3 inches high at 50 which puts the balls dead in the center of our leagues 50 yard target. I was real pleased with where I was at when I had a bizarre flyer to the left without explanation. I discovered one of the mounting screws was loose. Rats. easy fix, but I had to do it at home, ending the session. This week end I will tweek it some more.

Any pics before the minwax?
unfortunately i didn't take any after blushing. the minwax darkened it some, but not a great amount. i may hit it with some golden oak to warm up the lighter grain. the BLO is likely to darken it some more . i want the sunshine on this one so most likely will hit it with golden oak or maple.
i am at the point where i have to force myself to wait. i want to get it done NOW!

turns out it will be a few days before i could work on it again, so i put it together! (my story and am sticking to it!)
