finished browning my old cva barrel. had it suspended over a steam kettle on the wood stove and the hot steam turned it mostly black. hit it with 0000 steel wool then renaissance wax and then blended it with crocus paper. works for me!

I recently bought a Traditions PA pellet, which I am told is nothing more than a marketing toy.

I cleaned it today, I adjusted the trigger, I installed a new touch-hole liner, and cut apart an old leather coat to make a cow's knee.

Oh, and I fondled it a little as well.

Trying out various finish stripping techniques per advice from forum helpers on my Dixie mountain rifle resurrection. 21 mile trip to Lowe's. Paint dept. lady had no clue and copper scrubbing pads not offered.

Finished putting an old rifle back to a showable relic. It was found in a wall in Kentucky and passed through a few hands till it got to me. It's about 43 calibre 40 inch barrel and has an interesting cast nose cap. The barrel was plugged with a broken ramrod and a rag, the lock, drum, nipple, under rib. thimbles, and sights were missing. After clearing the barrel, I altered a lock to fit the walnut stock and made a drum and nipple. The barrel and breech are too far gone to shoot so there's no path for a flame. This barrel had been on another gun back in the day and the toe plate must have been on a long rifle before this gun was made up. I made sights and the thimbles then an under rib of walnut. Doing a bit of rust and corrosion to make them blend in I think it's ready for a wall mount.

I worked on my old "hybrid" squirrel rifle.
Started years ago with a cut down Douglas 36 barrel and a square stock blank.
I got the main cuts made, the barrel inlet, the nose cap installed, the ramrod channel finished and a large siler lock kit inlet and polished up. Then got derailed on the project; for years
I still need to harden the internals to the lock...

I've been scouring the BP sites and got enthused, so....
Today, I drilled the stock to barrel pins and the two upper thimbles. It had been sitting in the corner for years with cable ties holding it together. Lucky I found all the parts except the drum.
I also got the Davis set trigger bar "almost" inlet. I need to take it deeper.
I also need to find my old jar of inlet black or get some candles, inlet the trigger bar by gosh and by golly.
I also broke the back inch off of the trigger bar; I thought they were made from better steel than that.
I was trying to bend it just a smidgen and it cracked. Oh, well. I'll get creative.
I forgot; do you have to harden the Davis set trigger kit? At least the sears?

I just took it up again. The project is about....well quite a few years old. I lost my workshop a few years back and it just set me back.

My lady and I just finished the last of the processing of my red stag meat. Made jerky and sausage today! Taken with the ole trusty .58 cal Jaeger rifle

I shot a couple of my Derringers that have been loaded for a few years. Bang on first cap on both. Cleaned them up put one away in its hidey hole reloaded and the other one I need to get out the Dremel and fix the inletting for the lock a tad.

Opened Dixie Gunworks package. Six flints and a catalog. $32. Spending my kid's inheritance. Treated myself to one of those German "agate" flints @ $9.95. Killed an hour reading the catalog. Still have perfectly good ones from the 60's but prices changed and it's a whole lot thicker with more words.

Showed a couple of other gun enthusiasts about muzzleloading today. Gave them 12+ shots each. Showed them on how to clean the rifles as well. One fellar is hooked on it now. I emailed him a list of everything that he will need as well as a list where to get it all from. He wants to be set up for spring. The other wants to see what his buddy gets first.

Took what I learned about the little fishing lights for bobbers and bought some dropped one in barrel of all my muzzleloaders and was relieved to know all my cleaning was good and barrels had no rust wish I had known about them years ago cause I always wondered if I was cleaning properly now I know I was

Shot my New to me .58 today. 445gr REAL Boolet cast - and Water quenched at approximately 8-9 BHN
Shoots very accurate out of Both my Rifles… No wad, Just Powder and Bullet.

The T/C was shot today,At 25 then 50 (2.5” group)and 75 yards. The Real And 75gr of 2f was grouping sufficient for woods huntin on Sunday/Monday. Deer killing accuracy, Kicks a tad- Yet fun indeed
Tc is a bit easier to carry and walk…. yet the Kodiak is worth it’s weight in Gold. Very accurate and double the fun.
