I was able to locate some tight weave cotton material .015 thick so I bought two meters of the stuff it’s 60” wide. I cut some into 1-1/2” strips and made a ballistol/water mix then soaked them and hung them to dry. I also cast 100 410gr 533 dia Minnie balls then an experiment. I paper patched 40 to see how they’ll work in my TC Renegade. ( I have two barrels, one is a stock 1-48” and the other is a green mtn 1-66” for PBRs). So, as soon as I can, I’ll be out testing my minies
IIRC the strips soaked in ballistol/water mix benefit from being laid flat on a non porous surface to dry
(or they will dry in a non uniform manner with a differing amount of lube end to end). If your strips produce variable results you might try that.

Picked out a nice live edge piece of Black Walnut to put above my desk… Nice to show off the goods. To Pretty to sit in a safe, I’ll get some hooks for mounting.

Finish sanding the butt end of a Lehigh Valley rifle. Hopefully , tomorrow, will begin to decorate it. This gunstock was a highest grade pc. of curly , hard sugar maple wood , that after the stock was pre-carved , the wood cracked in half through the lock panels to the entry thimble. To fix this mess , a 10" , x 3/8" Pc of thin wall brass tubing was inlet to restore the r/r hole from the entry thimble to the underside of the breech. Next the barrel was wrapped w/one thickness of plastic shopping bag, to act as a release agent. W/ everything prepped ,a quantity of common 5 min. Epoxie was poured into the longitudinally split, pre-inlet barrel channel . Next day , all the repair Epoxie was hardened , and the parts re-inlet into their respected places. A 3/8 " r/r drill was gently passed into the entry thimble hole to remove any small hardened drops of Epoxie from the r/r hole to the breech. Finished inletting the remaining parts , now sanding the butt stock in prep for decoration w/ carving , engraving , stain , and finish. The rifle should be a looker , and to think it was destined for the wood stove , due to it being broken. ......oldwood
