I went to a local small muzzleloader shop new Butler PA. Cooperstown Trading. I was able to buy real black powder, some cast 69 cal. round balls, and a Green Mountain .355 round ball mold. I had a good time finding a new shop to look around in. Next time I am in Butler will go back.

Found out that one of my NMN’s doesn’t like the ‘new’ bullets with 15gn Swiss 2 behind them.

the 7 ring is 2 3/4” - three rounds went off target completely at 15 yards!

probably needs less powder, what do you guys think?

the barrel IS pitted, it was a cheap gun.

Cast about 50 .350 Cal. round balls from the mold I bought yesterday. Mould marked 355, maybe I'm casting too hot. It's OK they will still work in my 36 flintlock.

I picked up another TC Hawken in pristine condition today and I also picked up a book, “ The muzzle loading cap lock rifle” written by Ned H. Roberts.
The Rifle replaces one that was purchased last year online for my wife from a pawn shop in Delta, BC. We only discovered after receiving the rifle that the barrel had a slight bulge from where the ball wasn’t seated on the powder charge. This rifle by comparison has a pristine mirror finish down the bore.

Good you didn't I'm sure. But I took pics of my big toe when in Home Depot dropped a sheet of 3/4 ply edge down. lost the toenail, etc.

I feel your pain, probably worse than my toe ! Haha

anything other than a wood mallet is overkill! i hide all my metal hammers other than a 8 oz ball peen when working on rifles. I Knows Meself!
My 8 oz ball peen's handle is broken. I'm kicking myself for not stopping when the pin didn't slide right in like all the others. The damage has been 'repaired'. I just hope it's as invisible as I think it should be.

The rifle is assembled, in the white, right now. I have two issues to deal with. I'm not happy with the buttplate fit, and the entry pipe causes the ramrod to bind. It goes in great with the entry pipe removed, so there's obviously an alignment issue. No hammers will get within 25 yards of the stock during the adjustments. :thumb:

If you check and find your entry pipe is just a tad out of alignment you might want to slightly sand the pipe? It may be that it is out of align a very small amount . You just need to be careful and not over do it. Sand a little and try your rod until it slips in snug. Be extremely careful as to not make it obvious.
