Have a H&P musket back half(no barrel, just the lock & stock from the rear band to the buttplate). Had been told that a proper 1816 breech was 'in the works' but that still hasn't been appeared. Was going to have Bob Hoyt work his maJiX to get me a complete barrel. Apparently not happening.
Have a Harper Ferry(HF) 1842 barrel coming in that I'm going to borg together for an 1816/1842(H&P + HF) mongrel. Due to the differences in the H&P vs. HF breech, will have to make a brass spacer to act as a filler for the bolster area.

So, spent the day after work looking for hammers that are original but not jacked up in price by being the super rare unicorn of "a confederate conversion" male bovine feces that could be heated to be bent to strike the cap. Once the hammer is done, will need to start looking for barrel bands and springs. Got some leads, will post pix of a layout once able to start borging this musket together. May start a thread on this project once underway to track it better.

went to the real range after work. still breaking in my 1858 so put 3 cylinders through that rig and started to get some hits. then i got serious about training for saturday. with the trapper. hitting the six inch plates well from 25yrds and if I am really steady hitting the 8inch plate from 50 yrds

offhand and even hit the 6" plate off hand twice.

when I add running into the mix my accuracy goes down hill faster than I can run...... from the bench this thing consistently hits the 6 inchers at 50...

I piddled with my Kibler SMR kit some more today. I finished inletting the barrel and tang, Inletted the triggers and lock, then drilled the holes for the tenons and cut the pin stock, and put them in but left them long so I can pull them later. Started cleaning up the trigger guard with a file and decided to call it a day because I wasn't feeling very well.

had a terrible practice session today. perhaps the result of a rough stressfull day at work. the gun shoots fine. 25 yrd 3 shot group from a rest tells that story.

I could not hit a plate offhand to save my life @25yrds. yesterday i was hitting plates at 50yrds... match is saturday.... I am going to have to resign myself to just having a good time regardless of the score...

Returned from visit with two daughters and sons-in-law. Sent one of them photos of my recently acquired George Washington Pistols. Took a long look at a knife I started, considering completing the job but I' m a bit lazy after the trip [always actually]. Made a Devil's Food cake for my theater group and then found out they cancelled today's practice.... want a piece of cake? Enjoyed getting back to the forum. :horseback: Polecat

Well, since this last weekend’s hunting trip proved a plethora of learning about my kit, I had to do some adjustments. The knife sheath on the back of my possible sack proved unworthy of keeping the knife properly secured. So today I made a belt sheath for it. Lol as you can see, a few errors. Just like the maker, but that’s okay. It works for me.

what i see is a custom made sheath! the biggest error one can make is not trying. the technical abilities come from trying. looks good to me!

I have two .54s that have very tight muzzles, they are hard to load even with a .530 ball and a .010 patch. I don't like shooting thin patches so I ordered a Tanner .526 mold to see how they shoot out of my tight .54s with a thicker patch. I cast up about 50 balls this afternoon on my high-tech casting rig.

Paper fiber egg cartons are perfect for catching hot balls just out of the mold.

Stopped by Dixon muzzleloading in Kempton pa. Bought the maximum allowance of black powder per person for a three week period 1 pound. Talk about rationing. I didn't see any percussion caps.
