What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Inventoried my m/l patching material , and organized it , so if I can remember where it is , I can find what I need. Most times here , finding what I need , is similar to an Easter egg hunt. I have some frequently used hand tools , that when lost , I call ,"escapees". Instead of prison striped suits , they are known by the fluorescent orange tape , they wear. The easily spotted tape , keeps me from doing rash things , like ordering a replacement tool. One way to quickly locate a miscreant missing tool , is to go buy a replacement one. The miscreant will be found , quickly. Inanimate objects are one of the few things in life , that tend to pi$$ me off , when they hide from me. ....oldwood

Took my T/C Renegade flintlock down from the Wall of Guns this morning. Loaded with a patched round ball and went out to dispatch an unopened can of soda. 7 grains of 3f Old Eynsford with 50 grains Triple 7 under the ball. Primed pan with a little 3f Old Eynsford.

Flat out missed with the first shot. Second attempt resulted in a couple of misfires... which showed me how much I was flinching. Wiped the frizzen off with my thumb and tried again... this time making the shot to great pyrotechnic and explosive hydraulic display. Can ended up in two pieces.

Have decided I need to get the flintlock down more often... and maybe clean the oil off the frizzen before I load it.

Duck hunt day 3/3. Five mallards taken, 26 total (ducks, not all mallards) for the weekend by the 5 of us. Great weekend!

Took the lock off my T/C Renegade flintlock for cleaning and lubrication. Need to do that more often. Used an oven set at "turbo" & 200 degrees for ten minutes to dry out the lockworks. Didn't think I wanted to disassemble it... not that smart.

Interim status of my Jaeger remodeling project. I think it’s coming along nicely. Only thing is, I’ll have to get a new front sight. This one has shrunk considerably, over the past 30 years! The inlay I found in an old percussion shotgun buttstock, I had around the shop. I just cleaned the brass parts. Didn’t want to remove all that beautiful patina they have built up over the years. Still a little sanding to do, but I want it to look a little worn.

I warmed up some bear oil and melted some beeswax, mixed and poured in tins for patch lube. My straight bear oil works but I want to try it this way.

Went to a nearly shut down Field and Stream and spent $40 on ALOT of BP stuff marked 90% off.

Stripped a cut down Renegade stock today so it could be refinished at a later date.

Good times with my 21 Year old Grandson today. He had a newfangled pistol to break in but I brought smokepoles! 80 grains of 3f APP in my 54 New Englander under a 535 grain No Excuses conical kept flipping my 3/8 thick AR 500 gong around the target frame so fast and hard that the whole 35lbs of target and frame was getting slammed to the ground! I think the round ball shooting was what converted him to a new world! Yes it was cold. But we were distracted!

I continued to inlet my 58 Kibler kit. The wood swelled a little but with slow and careful spotting and scraping it is sinking into place, hopefully with no gaps.

Removed the trigger mechanism from my .50 New Englander, cleaned it, oiled it, and put it back together. Then I joined this forum.

Turned and tried a muzzle coneing tool, ball/patch fit good, haven’t shot it yet.
