Thanks for all the responses, I gave up again for the day. Loja Man's wife & mine think alike...get a bigger lever & a good ole USMC sledge hammer.
Made a nipple wrench from a socket trying to get more leverage...no go.
Found out this cap & ball revolver was made in 71 Italian code XX7. It's a 44 cal copy of the 1851 navy which was only made in 36 cal. Engraved cylinder which has "Engraved 16 May 1848".

Found these pics of a CVA Mountain rifle that inspires me to try and build mine. Dark finish and silver hardware are beautiful.

Go for it. But do some research first. I browned my Lyman 50 cal & used tea & coffee and some other stuff, if I remember correct cherries to stain the stock. Then I used beeswax and heat to rust proof the barrel. This was in 70-71 that rifle still looks great and shoots better than the other ones I have. The molecular structure of beeswax is a lot smaller than paraffin.

Finished the final sanding on the SMR stock. Applied two coats of iron nitrate. Then applied the first coat of Tried & True oil. Probably put 3 coats on with a 48 hour dry time between. Have the stock hanging out of the way for drying. I’ll start draw filing the barrel tomorrow and get it finished up between re coating the stock.
That wood grain looks nice!

Took my Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle .54 out into the blizzard to shoot a small plastic bottle. Put food coloring in the water so I could see it 25 yards out. Amazing how much an 18 MPH wind will blow even a heavy rifle around while you are trying to get a sight picture. Five shots later, there was blood on the snow and a rifle to clean.

Final drill for 3/8th ramrod channel.

TOW Kentucky pistol stocks come with a 5/16th channel. Too narrow a rammer for a .62 bore.

Anyone contemplating a pistol build should feel comfortable buying a stock from TOW. When they say fancy maple, they mean it. Curl everywhere.

Cut the ramrod entry detail.

Time to finish inletting the barrel. That be one giant muzzle.

Recieved and installed Slix-Shot nipples on both a Pietta 1860 .44 and a Uberti 1861 Navy .36. No issues at all - now need to shoot them to experience the improvements.

shot the January postal target. broke my RR with about 4 inches out of the muzzle. speared my little finger on my right hand, the one i cut off with a skil saw years ago and had reattached. not much feeling in it.
Well that kinda sucks. We all warn about wooden ramrods... but nobody ever thinks it will ever happen to them. I have guns with hickory ramrods as well, so you are not alone, I am also an "old fool".

I guess I'll join that crowd...I make my ramrods out of oak dowels and use brass cartridges on either end. I'm more for shooting the suckers than for looks.

I have a set on the way for my Pietta 1860 as well. These reportedly almost eliminate the cap sucking jam problem. Check the "horns" on your hammer face too. They're really sharp/edgy on my gun. Will polish them as well.
