Well, I've must come back in the house after a mammoth session of casting with my little Lee pot. I've been pretty remiss over that last couple of years, and let my stock of ball and bullets get down to the 'where are they all?' level. NOT good. Especially with a monthly guest day coming up, on which I can usually get through over a hundred .44 ball and maybe 30 - 40 .577 of one kind or another by that I mean Minié - it can get VERY busy here. If course, it's smiles all the way after cracking off a cylinder of .44cal ball, or letting rip with a service load and a Minié - I've never seen anybody without a great cheesy grin on their fizzog - usually thought the cloud of smoke.

So, using more or less my last pieces of church roofing lead- acquired legally ['onest, guvnor], I've made around 500 .44cal ball, around 200 Minié bullets of two sizes - one for the Musketoon and a different pattern for my Pritchett Volunteer rifle.

I took my 51 Colt Navy and Ruger OA out for a couple hours. I used 20 grains of 3f with some corn meal between powder and ball.
The Ruger did well but slightly high and left at 40 feet.
The Colt shot a decent group even though I had to hold about 6-8 inches low as it always shoots high even after I cut the hammer notch lower and draw a fine bead.
I was happy as I’ve never been a good pistol shot anyway and since my right eye was damaged I’m forced to switch to left eye aiming.

Drilled a ramrod hole in a project stock. Not just your everyday hole making. Thank goodness I cut the channel in first.

Added a tapered threaded ferrule to the smaller end of the ramrod I use with my half stock plains rifle. It's glued and pinned in place, and threaded 8-32. The main reason for it is in case I need to pull a ball or stuck patch. I also drilled a hole in my short starter so I can use it as a palm saver if needed to fully seat a ball in a fouled bore. (I stole this idea from another shooter at the last woods walk I attended.)

Beautiful! Did you find any?
the kid found some, me, i found a stump just the right height and sat and contemplated the meaning of life!

today i started browning a GM 54 cal barrel i just received. that is all! now am sitting and watching it snow. all dang day! we were just about clear of snow and here it comes again.

I made paper cartridges for my 44 cap n ball pistols with cigarette paper, pyrodex 30 grain pellets , wonder wads and 451 lead balls. It was fast and easy. I will let you know how they work next week after shooting them.
