Well… that makes me old too. What you need is some “game.”

Ask one of them to pose with it for your friends because they wouldn’t believe a gal was interested otherwise. Or just tell them you want to remember a good day. It’s always easy. In my experience,
They appreciate attention as long as it doesn’t seem creepy.

I don’t really care either way, but a good day, is a good day and women are a blessing.

Holy smokes, that looks great. That's high art there. I just finished my first horn. I may try another down the road. I'm just glad I didn't do anything so bad to it that it would be unusable.

I’ve done several Maple stocks, but this was my first Cherry. Personally, with my experience, I don’t see much difference in cutting or sanding the two though many say Cherry is easier to work. But with a Kibler kit that’s not an issue. I lucked out with a Cherry finish I like. Don’t think you can go wrong with either. I’m going to be building a Cherry SMR soon and I’ll be trying a different finish. I’ll have more experience to compare then.

I pulled the trigger on a 58 colonial rifle kit in cherry this morning. Will be my first build. Looking forward to it.

Yesterday I dug out my old Dixie Cub flintlock.40 caliber, due to parents going downhill fast 6 or 7 years ago and taking care of them best I could to keep them home,all my Muzzle loader longarms got put on mothballs,sadly the cub had a bad rusty spot in barrel I worked it over pretty good but still grabs patch a bit,once I got her as smooth as possible it was dusk I still touched of 4 rounds, had a better group at 25 yards then I expected My eyes have got a lot worse since I last shot her,I plain couldn't see front sight when on black bulls eye,I had to raise sights over target to get a halfway sight picture then try to lower onto bullseye,I ended up with right around 2" group just below 2" bullseye and that was much better then I expected,I am going to take a file to rear sight and open it up a bit hopefully that helps.

Cut/filed lines in the Maple stock and patch box lid plus the thumb hold. Still have to do the other side of the stock. But this will be it, no further adornments. Doing the straight lines are one thing, but I nearly screwed up cutting the curved ending line. I’ll put the iron nitrate on tomorrow.

That stock is gorgeous, I agree with you on not trying any intricate carving, it would be a real shame to mess that stock up.

Finally opened the wood box from Kibler today after staring at it in the corner of my shop for 10 days while finishing a bag and horn for a customer. 54 WR Cherry stock, everything looks just fine, now will take my sweet time and enjoy the build and finishing process to get this thing just right!

After not shooting my NW Tradegun for some period I took it out a few months ago and was way off target. I thought about putting a rear sight on the gun but decided to give it one more go without the rear sight. I started out at 25 yards and was able to connect using the tang screw position as my rear sight. After ten rounds I was able to connect 3 rounds that I am not embarrassed to show. This is 60 grains of 2F, a 1/8" Nitro card, .715 ball and an overshot card shot offhand at 25 yards.

Took out my Kibler Colonial .58 smoothbore for the first time and shot it. I used 60 grains of 2F, a 1/8" Nitro card, .57 round ball, and an overshot card. This is the first five shots - Five rounds offhand at 25 yards. The four taped over holes are from a buck and ball shot out of my tradegun. You have to love those Kibler guns.

Another super hot day. Abby and I are staying inside. Got the carved Cherry Woodsrunner completed. Finished prepping the Maple stock and applied one coat of iron nitrate, let it dry, then heat cured. Lightly rubbed it down with green scotchbrite. I decided not to use any stain, I wanted a lighter finish. I hand rubbed a coat of Tried & True on along with a little bone black around the wrist and comb. Probably do 4 coats, so it will take several days to finish.

Went to the range today. Took the Jaegar with me. I decided to clear out the cobwebs from the barrel and use up the current piece of English flint. I don't know how many hammer falls this flint had but the edge finally failed, even after knapping it several times on the firing line. Even flipped the flint to get a few more shots. Finally, time to replace it.

After casting all the .52 cal round balls this morning, I gave the Uberti Hawken a go and found that while it shoots a pretty good group, the group was in the wrong place. I started out at 25 yards distant with 70 grains 3F Goex and a plain white OY .015 patch with my usual schmear of lard for lube. First respectable group of three shots aimed at the middle dot was 4 1/4“ high and about 2 1/2” left. Hmmm….

Moved the target out to 50 yards (its usual home) and started taking aim at the lower right dot. Hit just below the upper middle dot and left, then switched to an 80 grain load. Still all around the upper middle dot.

I took the gun to the basement and clamped it up in the vice, broke out some small files and a pair of pliers and went to work on the sights. It appeared that someone had done a little futzin’ with them prior to me getting it. The front sight looked freshly filed (explains the high hits). The back sight had been lightly touched with a file, but at a side-to-side angle. A little work with a file evened out and lowered the back sight a smidge and I also deepened and squared the back notch. A little tweak to the front sight to move it a little left and the lower left target dot was in danger!

The front sight Is in pretty rough shape… it’s thin and bends with little effort. I have a spare silver front sight that happens to fit, so before shooting the rifle any more, I’ll replace that front sight and work it close to the right height.

funny thing though, the wife was making biscuits and refused the offer of me sharing my bear fat. women.

Cleaning up some old papers and old muzzleloading flyers from old encampments ad found my first copy of Duch Shoultz's "Black Powder Accuracy" papers. I ordered this so long ago that it was a paper copy. Verified that not much really had changed between 1986 and the 91 page version available today. Those were the dark ages for sure.

Could you tell me how he aimed his rifle? I hear of different ways people aim some very strange to me but his way must work?
