Cleaned the Kibler 45 that I shot yesterday. I then decided to clean out my muzzleloader supply drawer in the hopes of finding the breach plug to my old H&A underhammer 50 cal. I took it apart several years ago to lap the bore and misplaced the breach plug. It wasn't in the drawer but I did find it under the table. I also found out I wont have to cast any more round balls, minnies, maxis balls or real bullets for a while.

Took the Pedersoli Frontier out today to work on its 100 yd zero I was being frustrated by yesterday. Previously this rifle was zeroed at 50 yds and a quick three shots at 50 yds confirmed that it was, though I had to do a quickie field knapping to get the flint to spark (checked at home before leaving sparked fine):

Then took the rifle to the 100 yd range to work on it there. Rumbles of thunder heard. What? Looked on the radar before I left home like the rain was moving away. Nope. More developing, I guess. Only got off two shots before the rain started. So still waiting to get this rifle zeroed at 100 yds, which is where I want it. More frustration. This time with the weather. 100 yd zero will have to wait.

I've had this Kentucky on the bench for a good while. Just pecking away at it but a couple weeks ago I settled in to get it done. My shop is a corner of the unheated garage so I went with the weather. Been mostly very nice this past few months.

No ramrod yet. The one that came with the kit is completely unacceptable! I'll do one in oak or hickory. This is an older vintage CVA kit. No proof marks on the barrel which might be strong indication of a USA made barrel.

Barrel is done in a gray.

here i was just blithely turning a big chunk of wood into dust with a rasp and spoke shave, in the groove listening to Inna-godda-da- vida,(long version), when my best girl let out a shriek.
you know, that shriek reserved for life threatening events, or when she sees a check book entry for a Kibler kit.

turned out to be the washer overflowing. not a big deal except its on the second floor. water was 1 inch deep in the first floor bath. laminate flooring in the laundry was already puckering at the joints. shop vac'ed up all the water and have fans and heaters drying things out.
sent momma to town to get her mind off it by spending some money. ears still ringing from the shriek. back to making wood dust.

You will that most of these old cases which are from 100 to 200 years old , the felt is stuck by animal glue on most it comes of easy just like a thin board, but there are others that take some removing on this type I use a 1inch wood chisel ,this does not guarantee to remove al so I finish smooth with electric hand sander it mush be smooth for the new felt to lie for a good job.

Tom at Log Cabin Shop delivers! He repaired this double mule ear lock for me. After fitting it back to the gun, it’s now operating correctly and popping caps consistently. Time for a test fire! .36/12g combination gun by C.B. Turner, Grand Rapids.
That’s a very interesting lock! Would love to see a pic of the inside. With one trigger, wondering how it interacts with sear and tumbler.

Signed up for this forum!

And ordered my second kit. This one a Chambers PA Fowler.

My first build was a Kibler Colonial, and it turned out great, just wish it took longer, lol. I'm thinking I'm getting what I wished for with the Chambers.
The Chambers PA Fowler is a great kit and it will be more challenging so yes you are getting into a "Build". I really like mine. Here's my build along and finished pics. I'm building another after I finish my current build from a blank. Enjoy it and ask questions if you need help.

There are two tumblers and one sear. Each hammer is its own tumbler. The sear is stepped twice, one for each tumbler. Cock and fire one at a time. No half cocks. If one hammer is cocked, and the other is also cocked, it will drop the hammer that was cocked first. Makes you slow down and think!

It was your build thread that pushed in the direction of the PA Fowler. I had a fowler itch and found your thread; it turned out so well, I was inspired. Good work and thank you.

And yes, I'll probably tack some questions onto it in the future.
