Two coats of AF and some time with the heat gun. Tomorrow starts the rub back and color adjusting.
Suggestions are welcome.

Rub it and see what happens. Hopefully it will lighten the light spots easily and as long as it's light enough you can restore the yellow tint with another coat of dye before finishing. Worst case you hit it with the ferric nitrate and blush it again and end up back where you are now, which isn't a bad place.

I never messed with tannic acid on curly maple but that might be an option to consider, especially with the color direction you want to go. My only concern is how much of the super-dark will show in the light grain when rubbed back. You could also hit it with black aniline dye and sand it back to boost the end grain contrast.

Tough topic. It sort of assumes each of us will do something to do with muzzle loading every day. I'd love to, but it is not happening. At 75 I could easily (urinate) away a day travelling to the city and having tests and med appointments.
So let me ask does fondling, wiping, waxing, oiling muzzleloaders count? Or must it involve firing?
Firing is optional, it’s the thought that counts.

No just cuddling your best friend will do. I cannot shoot mine in uk, so that’s all I have, but I get by .

I Hollis and sons , England made cheap guns for South Africa But their locks on my 12b cape rifle are very good .’paid £170 from holts seals bid auction the other week. Just dismantled it and did an epoxy mend on the stock , most of the iron work is ok . Both barrels weigh in a 6 lb. Compared to 4lb on a 12b shotgun . Probably iron as it’s around 1850. Plenty of steel in them. Could not get dents or cuts out of shotgun barrel, so I’ll have to make a Larry Potter dent removal rod. Utube Rifled barrel is sound. Bores still rusty . I tried to get the breach plugs out but all it did was twist the barrel and then soldered rib got loose , epoxy needed. Don’t try to solder you will end up on a mess. I noted the hand made wood screws nice.

Nice Xmas project

Delightfully eclectic. Ordinarily do not see a banjo and saxaphone in proximity outside of the Philadelphia New Years Parade.

Since the previous thread was shut down (locked) by our new moderator, I thought I would start one up again, as per the suggestion.
So, let's get this thread going again, and share your muzzleloading related adventures of the day!
I made 2 priming horns from bleached out, cracked , & weather Buffalo horns. I had to cut them shorter, fix cracks using glue & sanding dist from pieces I cit off.. glued in plugs of Rhododendron from my yard. I've got to pin the plugs, & they're done.

Lot of work to make a Larry potter dent remover. So I made up a .725 dia rod 4” long attached to a long 1/2” dia rod I am tapping it down the bore and trying to tap the dents out. As it passes them Got 1/3 of way so far. The tube alongside shows me the position of the short .725 rod. It’s very tight. And the loose top rib just fell off. Too dark to continue in workshop Tomorrow I’ll try to remove the rod and grind it down to say .715 as I don’t want the rod stuck forever There’s some big dents further down the bore

Went on a lead and flint hunt. Don’t really need the flint but will pick up interesting pieces when I find them. TVA drains Norris lake way down this time of year. It makes fishing a little difficult but it’s a good time to walk the bank in search of lead sinkers, flint and other goodies. Didn’t find any lead today and didn’t find as many goodies as I sometimes do. It’s getting harder to find lead sinkers since not as many people fish from the bank as they used to, I guess.
