Ha ha made some oversized .45 bullets by mistake. Paper patch to .500’ 4 layers too much. How about thick lining paper.

roll around 1/4” mandrel to make a spring , fit to bullet, trim to length secure base with hot glue, cut slots like a sabot, push down bore. Simple and quick

You can make it over a mandrel , varnish or grease it . As I said just a bit of fun

Thank you, you are very kind, I try to do interesting things and pass them on, I am only allowed to shoot pcp airguns in the uk, so I have to make the best of my situation by gunny fiddling , hunted since I was 10 , and in Nigeria were I worked 78-81 but nothing much to shoot. Today I fiddled making sabots out of thick lining paper What more can I say but thanks again Of course I am totally mad , like most of us at 81. Ha ha

Well, as I said....it's coming along. Just got my Renaissance wax today, so I am trying one last test block (different order to see if the oak brown will do anything under the red) and waiting on the taller rear sight. I'll likely start laying out and working on the incised moulding lines once I get the nose cap on, and then I'll see about insetting my "medallion" in the comb. By that time, hopefully my final dye test is complete and I can move along to the finishing steps.

Pardon the sanding dust on the cock and barrel...I clicked before I realized I hadn't blown the dust off.

Looking at this German rifle 1850 bid £850 But tempted to bid on this working pistol as well just for the lock , it’s nice , around $250. As a pensioner I have to watch the ££££££ But nice locks are scarce Valued £150 to £200.

I brought along my Parker-Hale 1858 Naval rifle, a repo Smith carbine, an original Harpers Ferry 1842 musket and two revolvers- a repo Colt 1860 and a repo 1863 Remington. I had cartridges for the three long guns, as well as English Enfield leathers and a carbine box & cap box on a Virginia spoon in wreath buckled belt.

Have to give a shout out to @Piquant. I copied his idea on this. Bought a cheap HF 1 1/4” hole saw, ground off the teeth, and filed/sanded a cutting edge. Cut a section of old cedar fence board and cut fabric for the width and double the length. Stapled the fabric down on each end. Wasn’t sure I had the edge sharp enough, but it cut the fabric like butter. I think it 62 patches from the one side, think I can do a better spacing job on the other side and get 70 or so. I’ve had the fabric a good while, a couple of yards, compresses to a true .020”. Pretty sure I’ve never washed it to remove the sizing so I’ll do that before making more. The patches are the perfect size for .45 - .50 cal.

Buttplate made , nails made , attached ... Gettin stock roughed in a bit ... Gotta forge out a trigger guard soon so cut out a strip of steel for it ... The finished one is my N.Star pattern , early style ...

Great job. I really like what you did with the patch box cover!

Considering that's a first attempt at carving, lines and a brass end, I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out. I did get a little over-zealous with the "take a little extra off the dovetail so it won't stick" and it carried through to the brass so there are a couple gaps as a result...live and learn.

If my molding lines turn out half decent and I can get my coin/medallion/whatever I'm calling it inlet, I think I'll be quite satisfied for my first kit.

Picked up a 44 derringer at the lgs and expressed my interest in a nice English Fowler repro that hadn't made it to the rack yet. I'll be back there tomorrow!
