What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished everything on my .62 “British Officer’s Carbine” except the final touch of some paste wax. That will come after the varnish cures.
All in all, I guess I am satisfied with it. It was intended to be mostly a learning project for me (most all my previous gun projects have been kits of one sort or another), and in that regard it was a big success.
Looking forward to seeing how well this big bore rifle shoots!

Well ,in keeping with my scavenger nature,I took a worn out 1861 Navy Hand and modded

it to fit an 1862 Colt 2ND Gen.
Obviously #1 is the part I made and #2 is a DGW replacement part.
And It worked great.
Hardest part was sanding down the pin diameter from .135 to .130.

Ha ha do be careful by water especial if you go up north Darwin area When I was in Perth a few years back. The local paper reported that a hunters client ,he was escorting , was walking by water , rifle in hand and a big croc leapt at the client and seconds later he was gone , my cousins daughter left Darwin and returned to Perth as she said several kids had been taken by crocks , not nice . I gather crocs are protected now . Except if they eat a cane toad, last time I heard Toads had made it west approaching Darwin. The big hunter was Marraki after a local town up north, You can a find him on “Marraki last Buff”. or. 577/500no2 double rifle on google Don’t bother with WA very little to shoot a generally barren land, been up as far as Exmouth and south to Bumbry .?of course muzzle loaders are banned for hunting, so get a proper rifle, at 81 i don’t fancy another long 23 hour flight to Perth , Must say Perth is a beautiful city, but glad to get back to UK The big gunny range is at Jandulop 20 miles north of Perth I did note when for fun I typed Darwin into the Tom Tom, It said “take a right turn at next crossroads, after 2000 miles take a left turn and then you will have reached your destination”’. Thanks for the sentiments @Gordoncourtney. You are right. There are places in Australia that I certainly wouldn't camp near water! Bad things can happen where those big lizards reside. The places I haunt when hunting are well away from saltwater crocodile territory. Only a couple of weeks ago, just to the north of us, a fellow had his dog taken off his houseboat. Next, the crocodile made a lunge at the resident owner of the same vessel, launching up on deck to get him. Only quick reaction saved him. The croc has since been captured by a floating bait method and has been relocated to a sanctuary.

Yes. Western Australia can be quite barren, but it does have some wonderful places of natural beauty. Mind, I'm on the complete other side of the continent.

I wanted a square knob short starter to go in my woodsrunner bag. So I made one out of a scrap piece of maple and some left over hickory dowel rod. I didn't have a brass tip, so I made one out of a 38 special case. Nothing fancy, just quick and dirty. I'll have to order the little nub to go on the end of the handle I guess.

I didn't have a brass tip, so I made one out of a 38 special case. Nothing fancy, just quick and dirty. I'll have to order the little nub to go on the end of the handle I guess.

I made one, same set up with the 38 special. If you have a 380 APC empty casing they work good for the nub

Use a 9mm casing or a cut down 38 special casing and epoxy it in a drilled hole. Did it with one I mad and works great.

I just used a 380 case to make the nub. I also turned down a piece of dowel rod to fill the case up to strengthen the case. Worked good, thanks for the tips guys. I much rather use homemade stuff.

I prepped a new, to me, 315 Lyman single cavity mold, it came with handles. I degreased and smoked it. I hope to cast of a few in the morning. This will be for future rifle build. I have the stock. a lock kit. a Rice 32 barrel, and a set trigger kit. Many other projects to do. in front it

Been kinda cagey with this surgery recovery. So drove into town and hit a couple gun shops. Bought a brand new cva 50 cal mountain pistol kit! As soon as my left arm is usable again I’ll get going on it.
