Guess I should show the barrels etc
Well two coats of boiled linseed oil dried today. So I thought I would assemble it . The barrels 1885 .500 mint Metford rifling, as I said breach plugged and converted to percussion ( 209 primer ) barrels made by Westely Richards Birmingham BP proofed , stock is English walnut. I pretended it was converted in India, so made brass parts everywhere , the brass side panels are to give the 7lb barrels a firm grip as previously on test the pins split the wood . ( I will probably make a set in steel but not today ) it’s heavy like 12 lbs No ramrod attached to the rifle , just not practical. I hope to find some Westly Richard shotgun locks on eBay, but the ones I have are very good made by “ Williams and Powell “ I find most locks the same by some Birmingham lock maker , it’s just the name that’s different .
Power !!!??? Not that great. 142 gr Bp, 440 gr bullet, 11 tons pressure, 1775 ft sec, 3075 ft lbs energy , Hardly an African dangerous game rifle, but wonderful for tigers in India .
At 81 it keeps me happy fiddling
