Got the nose band put on the Carolina Gun today ....clean it up and stain the stock tomorrow ...
Rob, not that I’m expert, but I don’t remember having seen a brass wrap on the end of a trade gun stock before. Was this something common in a certain area or seen on a few guns?

It was on Carolina guns and sometimes youll even see them on N.W. trade guns but rare on them ...

Well two coats of boiled linseed oil dried today. So I thought I would assemble it . The barrels 1885 .500 mint Metford rifling, as I said breach plugged and converted to percussion ( 209 primer ) barrels made by Westely Richards Birmingham BP proofed , stock is English walnut. I pretended it was converted in India, so made brass parts everywhere , the brass side panels are to give the 7lb barrels a firm grip as previously on test the pins split the wood . ( I will probably make a set in steel but not today ) it’s heavy like 12 lbs No ramrod attached to the rifle , just not practical. I hope to find some Westly Richard shotgun locks on eBay, but the ones I have are very good made by “ Williams and Powell “ I find most locks the same by some Birmingham lock maker , it’s just the name that’s different .

Power !!!??? Not that great. 142 gr Bp, 440 gr bullet, 11 tons pressure, 1775 ft sec, 3075 ft lbs energy , Hardly an African dangerous game rifle, but wonderful for tigers in India .

At 81 it keeps me happy fiddling

Love from London

I must apologise for showing my 70 th birthday an unmentionable , I did not think I would make it with cancer , but here I am now 81. You just got to keep fighting it . They can keep me alive but cannot cure me

Well it’s a 450/400 I think Westely Richards made it as they supplied Lyon , ex Purdey salesman . and a shop in India . The rifle is inscribed. “ Lyon and Lyon late of Purdey

My birthday present Love from London wherever you are .

Sorry last rifle is by mistake it’s a 577 ml
Big game rifle made in Scotland

Today was the last day of my muzzy hunt and I blew it. 7 o'clock this morning a real nice coues deer stepped out at what I thought was 150 yards I did not think I had time to range it and I let the 58 Hawken bark a complete miss talk about disappointment when you could have used your modern muzzy and easily killed a nice deer. Oh well I tried I even picked a tree and sent a round ball and it hit the exact spot I aimed so not the rifle just the guy behind the trigger !!

FINALLY !! Got stock stained then coats of finish on too ...engraved sideplate too .... Tomorrow or next day , hopefully tomorrow ....put it all together and get some good pics of it ...then ....tear it all back down and start browning the barrel ...got put front blade , and rings , stamps on the barrel first though .... ever so slowly .....

You’re not alone in this predicament!! Sometimes my guns “lose” thier zero when I take a shot at a deer!!
