God help me but I stuck a few more brass tacks in my rifle stock…
It can become a thing 😀. More brass than a North Korean General? Pictures?

Cheers, Pete.

Zinc will ruin your alloy. Bullets can just crumble or break as they cool.
Zinc's will often have a distinct shape, and coating...."Zn" is stamped on a lot of them. Locate a weight marked Zn and notice its shape and color, throw out any weight that looks the same.

The flat strips with the sticker on the back are close to pure lead (Pb). I separate them to keep my soft alloy from my WW alloy.

Keep your smelting temperature low, like NO more than 650* this will allow you to skim the zinc with the clips and trash. Lead will melt before the zinc(780*meting point)

Lots of iron weights too, (marked "Fe") so don't rev-up the heat trying to melt them or you'll melt your zinc.
Hope that this helps...
Thanks for explaining. Much appreciated sir

The truth is that I tried Minies, Lee Real conicals and ball loads. The round ball gave the best groups.
I have had great results on deer with the 50 cal round ball so I have no concerns with the 58.
Next summer I will do more testing with conicals, I would like to try them on game. I'll post results if I get one.

Cheers @IronHand. That'd be good to see how you fare. You're right - if the 50 round ball will get the job done, the 58 is just a bit more medicine. I use a .54 patched round ball quite a bit, and it delivers the goods on pigs, deer and wild dogs. Regarding the musket and minies, I was just trying to be biased to the fodder it was designed for, but I'm willing to be flexible; I'll post some accuracy tests with the round ball by the end of the month, then perhaps after a field outing if successful.

Since I am not a re-en actor, I ordered three range bags for the three of my Kibler guns. Now hopefully, I won't lose a shipment of cards and wads, :doh:will know which bag goes to which gun immediately, have room for a bag of cleaning patches and a can of powder and overall, make my shooting time easier.

The Doc is out now.

My “tacky” TCNew Englander. It’ll be on my lap in northern Wi in just over 2 weeks. I plan to flash a brass tack warning before I shoot.
Ah. There you go. They'll honeycomb up nicely given a few outings. Could knock the shine back with a bit of vinegar mixed with salt, or even a small dash of cold blue on a cotton q tip. Happy hunting; and thanks for the image 👍.

My dear friend and 14 year old son are off to Brisbane on 16th , very envious , staying with mums sister. How long ???? He wants to see mangrove swamps, ok for mud crabs but too many nasty things around . Safer in WA a barren land as you go north , if you ask me, cold and wet if you go south , cold heavy rain nr Bumbry when hand feeding prawns to big rays , one November I was never warm till we got to coral bay . I know Canarvon quite well as stayed a week or two. Only wild thing was an Emu, chased it for miles ha ha

Enjoy , I miss Oz a lot ,but at 81 !!!!! Haha
