Sanding and chisel work...Bob got it right...this wood is hard and soft in layers...makes for a difficult sand. I have managed to get the toeplate screws to stop falling out. Win! My Motorola phone STILL won't post pics.
Next day...I need better light...working under a ceiling light is not working. Sunlight reveals mistakes...still enough wood left to fix ir.

Not today, but Saturday. Went over to my dad's place and shot with my brother. He got his unmentionable decibel reduction device, and I drug my old Traditions Kentucky .50 out.

It had been loaded since last December with a toothpick in the touchhole and wouldn't you know it, ka-BOOM-pingggg on the steel first shot. Spent the afternoon practicing offhand and hitting more than missing at 50 yards. Can't get better than an afternoon shooting steel and chatting with my dad and brother.

Put the proper thimbles on the Renegade. It has a CVA rear sight on it right now which I could swap out for a TC, but I like the CVA sight better.

if you like the cva sights better (i do also) the original sights on the T/C hawken/renagade were almost identical to the CVA's

I finished my little target board that I can roll back and forth. All pressure treated to last in our humid area. Wheels are from piling butts. Now I'm ready for the mason jar targets.
That's neat. The land where we have our range was just sold so until we can find something else I will have to go to a local public range. I looked at the web site and they say you have to bring your own target stands. Must be wood or plastic and not metal. That gives me some ideas.
