It’s not really a reply but I was not allowed to open the topic on tractor show So I hope the gentleman reads it before our moderator wipes it off. The derelict bit at the bottom of the garden is great for squirrels and pigeons too. It’s all too much for me with 82 just a week away my apology for jumping into your string. Regards Gordon

Scrubbed the oil out of the barrel of my 54 New Englander and measured out 10 or so preloads. Going out with Grandson Monday morning. Probably gonna snow now. Haven't fired a shot all winter!

Shoot the TC Hawken 45 cal through a chronograph today.

50g FFFg. 440 round ball. 0.10 lubricated patch

1687
1693
1685
1708
1703
1692

Your thoughts?
Fast enough huh? Given your load, I was surprised just how fast that round ball went @)Ohio_Rich. I was playing with an old single shot 45 rifle the other day with a load that delivers 1070fps (unmentionable) - I have taken down good boars close in with this, so your roundball should do the trick on deer sized game for sure.

I wonder if that variation from 1685 to 1708 was from different pressure on the rod when loading. Still, that's only a variation of 23fps. How was the accuracy at 50 metres?

Cheers, Pete

Gee whiz! I mowed grass two days ago! After I went hunting for flint.😲
I just mowed for the first time on Thursday…. About five acres worth. The first step in preparing for the Tennessee Longhunters shoot on April 5th at my place.

Most all the shootin’ happens down in the woods. Primitive camping and parking in the field.
