When people use the Search engine on the forum, they really need to check out the dates that the thread has to see how long ago it was posted before they make a reply.
I'm not saying it's wrong to reply to an old post but, the person making the reply should realize, the OP of the original post probably doesn't care about it any more after a year or two has passed.
 
As pointed out on page one, buy ferric nitrate crystals and put them in water.

Nitric acid is nasty stuff. Having it in your shop will rust your tools and parts. Adding water to it will cause a steam explosion and you will have a face full of nitric acid. Adding it to water is fine. Never mix those up or else. Drips will eat holes in you clothes and eat up your bench. Getting a spec of it in your eye can blind you. Adding iron to the solution makes ferric nitrate. That is an exothermic reaction that evolves toxic brown vapors. You will not do this safely in an old mayonnaise jar. Jar get hot, breaks, now you have a huge mess. Why bother? Just buy ferric nitrate crystal.
