I was late getting a flinter, shot percussion rifles for many years. When I moved to Colorado in 1988 I went to a rondy back in the rockies and toted along a custom (perc)Hawkin I had built from parts I assembled. It was a nice rifle with a fine Green River .58 barrel, copied from a genuine Hawkin in a Taos museum. Saw a pretty flintlock PA rifle on a trade blanket and swapped my Hawkin and some cash for it. Many years later I found out I had struck a great deal, 'cause that flinter was made by the noted Keith Casteel. It was his 50th rifle (he told me much later), made in 1974. He is now semi-retired from the business. I retired that rifle and now shoot one of several others...but I tote it once and a while at events...
