What's a good Flintlock to buy?

The inletted stocks available from the suppliers have the barrel channels cut very close, I mean a press fit into the wood. But they probably aren't cut clear to the tang, which means you have to hand inlet the back end of the barrel and the tang. Some may have that done, anybody know? I just finished a Pecatonica River Beck Boy's rifle (well, I'll put it together in the morning, last coat of tung oil is drying in my cabinet). The parts cost $460.80. Mine is a 13/16 x 36 .40 Green Mountain barrel, but you can get 13/16 or 7/8, .32, .36, .40, .45, .or .50 caliber 36 inch barrel inletting. Either flint or percussion, mine was cap. Double set trigger, but I'd choose single. I cut mine at 12.5" length of pull, but it could have gone out to about 14. Only 2.5" drop at heel at the short length, only thing I'd change if I could, to more. Barrel inlet (though not the tang), ramrod groove milled and drilled into stock, lock inlet, trigger inlet. Had to saw off the butt stock and inlet the butt plate. Nice rifle with not much difficult work to do.

Thanks Herb & StaticXD00d. I will build my Flint Lock rifle if i can find out for sure as to what degree the Barrel channel has been inleted from who i buy it from, thanks for yall's info on who that might be and who maybe to buy it from.I also need all the info on what is a good LOCK to buy that has a great Frizzen but is easy on the pocket book,LOL.
Any other info that yall are anyone else might have i need that also.
Many Thanks Guy's

Larry,

PS, guy's long story here , but i would not want anything via CVA or Tridation's

No explanation necessary. If you want a good quality flinter at a reasonable price I think either the T/C Renegade or the Lyamn Trade Rifle would be a good deal. The Renegade is a little more expensive but not much, and it is American made and has the best warranty there is.

You want a gun that goes where you aim it.That can be a problem,I want a gun that shoots where I want it to go.

Guy's i guess i am going to build me a Flintlock, unless a deal that i might get takes place.
But i do have a question about Vent Liners,if i build a flintlock, will the barrel i get have a vent liner already install? Are do i have to install it?No big deal if i have to install it,just trying to find out first.
I guess this question might should have been posted in a diffrent thread/post,sorry if it is in wrong place

I have done two of the TVM kits, a TN Mountain rifle in .45 and their American Fowler in .62 both are flint. The barrel channel and ramrod groove are cut to size and the lock was pretty well inlet. There is enough wood left on the stock from end to end that will need removing and allows for carving/incising decoration. The good folks at TVM have been very helpful with both and I will be purchasing another from them in the future. The TN rifle I use for both squirrel and deer hunting. Shooting squirrels out of the tree tops should be reasonable accuracy. Delivery time on the kits was only 2-3 months when I ordered mine. Hope this helps.

Tony

Thanks WindWalker, but i may be mis understood, what is this TOW you just told me about, and can you give me a link to it?Thanks
Mr. Da Fox,
If you get your barrel from TOW, do believe they will install a vent liner for a small fee.
Best Wishes

Thanks Tony Speight for the Tip on the TVM, i been on there site looking around some[all day], and like it alot to i might add.I may call them tomorrow after i get my mind made up some what ,like what kind of this and that to put on/in the gun,LOL'I do like the looks some what of the Early Lancaster and the Early Virginia if i can get some Drees UP's on it and a differnt Trigger and Sight's front and rear. The gun that i want does not have to be true to it's time.I want it to look good and shoot as good as it look's.That is what i want on my ,lol :redthumb:
Thanks
