JJ Henry talks about pulling the bullet each morning, so I loaded one up and then pulled it to have as a teaching tool. Some day I will put it back in the mould and recast it for an audience.

Nice. Dont know how many times ive shown folks what was in my patchbox, and what the ball puller was for.

A pulled ball would demonstrate nicely.

the patchbox on my pedersoli long rifle doesnt like to stay closed out in the woods. i gave up on keeping anything in there and in fact im thinking about welding it shut.

now i got a custom flinter on the way that should have a decent patch box on the thing. ill be keeping a spare flint, some patches, and a worm in that one.

A small can of snuff. I can live without any lube, I'll bare-ball if I have to for a follow up shot, don't need a worm & there's a jag on my rod.

However, the hunt is DEFINITELY over if'n I ain't got a dip!

why does the patch box keep opening on you?
What is happening to cause it?

the patchbox lid on my pedersoli is really cheaply made. the spring that holds it in place is equally cheaply made. i suppose i could replace them both but i dont really have a need for the patchbox on that gun.

everything i would put in my patchbox for this gun could equally go in my shooting bag. now for my flintlock its a different story. it never hurts to have an extra flint, flint leather, and vent pick with the gun at all times.

Nothing in there. Just there for looks and because it's supposed to be there......Ron

Rifles I built, a .54 Henry Albright caplock, a .40 Jacob Wigle flint (Westmoreland Co., PA) and a .40 Thomas Oldham Bedford percussion. The threaded shanks of the cleaning tools are set into the wood so they stay put and don't rattle. The ball puller holds the other two in place.

This is how I now secure the cleaning tools. This is a .50 caplock for a woman.

A note from my mother.

There are lots of modern jokes about the "Patch Box" on the M16, its a place for your weed, its where the "Sprong" goes ect. I guess you could say thats where you keep your Klatch? :rotf:
