i use stumpys moose molk and snot recipes and have had no rust problems ,however i do give the bore a heavy coat of rem oil when i put it up. :what:..good insurance
when i go to the range i wipe the barrel with a couple of alchohol and dry patches ans start loadin an shootin :results:

I had been using Bore Butter and Wonderlube 1000 for a couple of years. Recently tried Stumpy's Moose Snot and Moose Milk. Last several trips to the range I have used pillow ticking strips soaked in MM then hung to dry, and cut at the muzzle. I like it a lot - I'm not sure if I am getting any better groups or not, but it just "feels" better. For storage I use Ballistol.

it was claimed on a different board that I read, WD-40 after a time will cause a "varnish" almost like coating that can really gum up firearms. WD-40 which is a Water Displacer does a good job for that but if I want to store something for a long period of time or even a short period of time I will trust it to a quality gun oil.

I think I used balistol once or twice. Is this the stuff that has a terrible smell? I know a person that uses something that really stinks but he claims it works really good. I used some of it once or twice, but never paid a lot of attention to it because I liked REM OIL w/teflon.

I use bear grease and beewax for patch lube and Ballistol for the bores and wiping down the guns.

I use Birddog6's liquid lube when at the range and his grease mixture when hunting. I have had great results with both. His liquid lube is a lot like LeHigh but doesn't seem to evaporate as fast. For storage and cleaning I use Balistol followed by a BD6 grease patch. Been using it since June of last year.
Packdog

I recently tried Birddog6's lube and found it very much like Lehigh Valley, perhaps even better.
I have not had a chance to get a lot of range time in over the past couple of months, but further testing of BD6 lube is certainly going to happen.
At this point, I have nothing but praise for it.

stumpy just bought a little spray bottle do you think this will do a good job insted of dipin

i noticed the castor seperates to top figured if i shook it up and sprayed it would get a more even mix on patch

I mixed my first batch of Stumpy's Moose Milk Monday night and used it today. It is wonderful. I fired 40 shots without cleaning. Final clean up was normal. I also used the same black Englsih flint the entire morning and did not have to knapp at all. The castor oil must help flint life.

Halftail. Firstly for info the Ballistol rep in Canada is Newmapack Ltd. 1027 Pierre Dupay. Longucuil. Montreal. Phone 001 514 8665572 Fax 001 414 6702214.
Re what do I use. Depends what gun
Shotgun/Bess/Baker = non salted lard
Enfield = Elbow grease and washing up liquid
Ped Gibbs = used to use Neatsfoot oil using Ballistol now.
Made myself some Moose milk and Moose snot last week which have worked well in the Baker and Enfield respectivly. As for storage a cloth well wetted in 3 in 1 oil. WD40 was designed to only last 10 days in NASA builds. JM

Lehigh Valley for patches
TC #13 for cleaning
Rem-Oil for storage
no problems yet...after 9 years.
