there's a wheel lock for sale on a well known on-line auction site I'm thinking about, but can't tell anything from the pics and description, Starting bid is $1500. Any thoughts?

If you can't tell anything from photos and description, what could anyone possibly offer?

Easy there Jack Bauer ... :surrender: did you ever consider that the OP may not be familiar with wheelocks and that others like Razpla, Ricky, or J Alden may know much about it just by seeing the model in question?

... too quick to pull the trigger, you were :hatsoff:

Fair enough. I guess he can give everyone the link in private.

I think it's against the forum rules to post a link to an actual auction even if you don't have an interest in it, that's why I was so roundabout, not even mentioning the sponsoring platform auction co., which is the biggest of them.

Right you are. I don't know that much about wheel locks, and who's been building them and for how long. All my knowledge of them has come from this site, and TRS's. They're definitely a back water market in a back water market!

Hi
Yes , I made the mistake of trying to post the link. I thought it would help if everyone was talking about the same pistol.
I can definitely confirm that posting such a link is blocked :nono:

Best regards

My wife wakes me up at night with snap quizzes, and am proud to say so far she hasn't tripped me up with clever tests on the nuances in any of those forty rules!

Will I be breaking any rules if I post that ,

The auction has four hours to go , and the bid is at $3,100.00 US

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

$5,800.00 an still climbing

oops , sorry $6,5191.99  Looks like a knock down drag out

In the last hour or so , there were about 23 counter bids using the 15 minute rule and it finally topped out at $7,002.99

Lots of fun to watch

So was this a fair price? Again, was this an original wheel lock, or a reproduction, even if old.

I didn't realize these would go for this sort of money.

Did anyone reading this forum decide to bid on it?

Hi Col. I seriously wanted to. But I knew if the right guys saw it, it would go for over 5 grand. The guy selling it is probably in shock it went for that much :haha: He's probably wondering: What do I have here?? :haha: Agreed, it was a fun auction to watch. Rick.

Streuth :shocked2:

A few years ago I bought an English Civil War musket barrel c1640 and a wheelie that looked like someone had tried to convert it for such a musket and failed.

I was thinking to make myself a gun but I don't know if I dare now :rotf:
