No we can’t. Which reminds me of those awful pictures of those adults wearing diapers laying in giant cribs sucking pacifiers and saying they ‘identify’ as babies. No, you don’t. You have no knowledge of what it’s like to have a head full of nothing and no clue what that warm stuff in your diaper is.
I would hazard that the stuff in their diapers is the same stuff in their skull

I’ve been doing this for a while now, and after seeing and hearing a great many “expert opinions” I formed a personal approach to such folks. I listen carefully and politely, thank them for their inputs and ignore them from then on. My good friend and hunting partner for many years, Jim B., was a former Korean Conflict Marine and stood “5 foot 18” in his moccasins according to his own claim, and ran about 250 pounds. At one gathering of the HC crowd, he was told that a deputation of two was going to “check his clothing for correctness” before allowing him on the grounds — to which he had been invited. Jim looked at them and replied, “Well, I think you need more help before you try checking MY clothing.” They went off to think about that and he left, never to return.
There was nothing incorrect about his outfit. He knew that, and would have answered polite questions, but he had a problem with rudeness.
Me too.

I draw the line between having an enjoyable experience and what it is that I am trying to represent.

At the traditional gun club, I draw the line at a traditional (styled) side hammer or under hammer. Which can be either percussion cap or flintlock.

At Rendezvous, such as the Fort de Chartres June Rendezvous, I let the good time roll! I draw the line at my campsite and it is a very lenient line. Yes, the cooler is in a wooden box and the plastic water reservoir is in a cotton bag. Too much cooking iron, but I do dress to the period I wish to represent.

At the juried April Trade Faire, I draw the line at the juried requirements. No plastic in camp. I will bring in what I am cooking from the cooler. No grates on the campfire and the folding cot stays at home so I sleep on the ground. There will be clothing with machine sewing, but I have hand sewn clothing as well.

Twelve pages and 225 posts, some of them downright strange, TBH, especially those about the people who want to be 'identified' as a trumpet or fur-covered windmill or some such oddness.

As you've probably guessed by now, none of this shenanigins takes place over here in UK, at least, I've never found any. Sure, there are some serious reenactment groups who model their activities on the English Civil War and later conflicts and the styles of dress and weapons used at the time, but none of the antics that some of you have encountered.

Are we missing out here? Well, of course we are, mainly by not having your rich heritage of recent history to revive. You relive battles of your recent civil war, well, not far from where we live in one direction is the site of the Battle of Naseby, fought in the last English Civil war of the 1640's. And a little further away, the site of the battle where the last king to die in action fell, surrounded by treachery, at Bosworth Field in 1485 - seven years before Columbus sailed.

Both of these momentous events are reenacted, but without the rancour and nit-picking that seems to spoil so much of YOUR reenactment activities.

1758 I see what you are saying and I agree with it. Going to a rendezvous that have those restrictions in their by-law should be abided by completely. Otherwise it ruins the whole atmosphere. That is not my thing, but I do enjoy seeing re-enactments and such and think those participating should follow the rules without complaining. Seems like there is always one who doesn't like what is going on. Just see what the by-laws and rules are before - don't like don't go.
I love and have traditional looking guns, just not buckskins or period looking clothes. However; I do believe there is place for me in the old traditional way of shooting. My point is this: Conform or stay away. Read it if you like it or don't read it if you object. My old buddy is like a lot of you. It took him a while to talk to me when he found out the classification of one of my guns. How silly, which ever side of the street you are walking one. This HC/PC or not HC/PC position in life, I just can't take too seriously.

As a relative new comer I observed ,many long time members are HC/PC truests which I find amazing because of the knowledge and dedication they have...BUT, some new members who are new to ML join to gain knowledge of the form, function and use of their new interests .Some have ZERO access to local clubs or other ML shooters .If you spend hours and days on the internet it can provide a vast amount of information but without the human experience it's just words on a screen.Because We don't shoot 100 year old weapons or dress like Davey Crockett or Jack Hinson but many enjoy sharing and learning from those who accept us as fellow ML enthusiasts. Please don't shun us for not being HC/PC but teach us the history of this great country and the ML history so we may also pass it on and keep it alive.
My thoughts exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself.

It seems to be more acute on the east side of the Mississippi River. In the west, you seldom see thread counters. We enjoy being as real to the times as possible, for our own satisfaction.

That’s pretty solid.
All of us want to enjoy our hobby. But in any group there will be those who are ‘more ( whatever) then thou’
I want to get the details right, I want to be with others that try to get the details right. How ever how seriously should we take it. We are just a bunch of over age kids playing cowboys and Indians here

Well, it appears that youre certainly not here to apply tact and consideration to the subject.

rudeness? please, that is called being a total and complete a hle IMHO

I appreciate that some folks are really into period/historical accuracy, great for them!! How many received all the required school vaccinations, back in the day? I'm sure that would have whittled down a great many of them, just to be historically accurate!

Yup just ran though all 12 pages. He is the key factor, Having FUN.

To some of us the modern stuff is just another excuse to kill something.
I am not a purest, Ive forgotten most of the history I learned 50 years ago.

The sport is where purest live. Having everything as close to the way it was, to walk in your ancestors footsteps.

Our countrie's history is no longer being taught. So Our life style is fading and some fear being replaced by the moderns. We see history being changed or erased. We prefer not to be erased.

Whether your shirt has the correct thread count or not, does not make you any less of a person, enjoying ML and history. IMHO that should not be the driving force in ML or reenactments , living history etc. The drive should be to get people to want to participate, have fun doing it, and share the experience. When you do not have those goals , you are just marking time until there is no one left who wants to be bothered trying to adhere to all the minutia and rules.

Thank you, well stated.

I'm sorry? I don't bleeve that I've ever been accused of being tactful and considerate, well, in the way that you mean, anyhow. I'm what used to be called a 'straight-talker' and if my posts somehow offend you [and please note that so far, nobody else seems to have gotten their hair on fire from my post], please feel free to do one or all of three things -

1. Ignore it, after all, what does HE know, stuck over there on a foggy island where it rains all the time and people in rags till the soil they don't own for those who do, and worse still, nobody can have a gun unless they are a duke or somethin'.

OR

2. Press that handy little 'ignore' button' and be forever spared anything from me that might just cause you some kind of offence.

OR

3. Add something useful to the thread in support of, or in rebuttal of, anything I've written, all of which, BTW, is nothing less than entirely true.

RESPECT my man. Nailed it!

Like many of you I shot and hunted with M/L long before I ever attended an oganized shoot. When I did attend, I didn't have and still don't have all the P/C H/C accoutrements. As I saw, I asked,it was usually the quiet Old Timer that would patiently fill me in. Anyone who walked up to me toTell me that I was Jonny out of step, was politely taken with a grain of salt. I learned Leather work, bead work, blacksmithing, and Teepee livin'. all things that I am profient in and still enjoy still today. But any one that considers me a Porkeater is WOEFULLY mistaken. We need to be inclusive not exclusive. The Anti's agenda doesn't splinter into groups, So enjoy at whatever level you are comfortable with.. NRA all the way....WALLY
